POPLAR, Mrs. Laverne - Age 91, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, March 7, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dennis Powell, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Thursday. Mrs. Poplar will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Laverne Poplar was born October 31, 1932 in Rison, Arkansas, the daughter of Ara and Kiah Hardnett. Laverne had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She was a member of Liberty Hill Church in Arkansas and Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Flint. Laverne managed the Casablanca Club for 20 years, she worked at AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors Corporation for 14 years and Loving Hands for 15 years. Mrs. Laverne Poplar leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Diane Poplar; son, Ricky L. Poplar; 4 step-children, Arthur, Anthony, Darrel and Veronica Poplar; grandchildren, Shelia Poplar, Latasha D.L. Flowers, Ebony Poplar, Arron Poplar, Ivory Poplar and Ricky Poplar Jr.; 19 great-grandchildren; 18 nieces including, Iwoana, Genieze, Tania, Brenda, Tammy, Dollester and Gail; 34 nephews including, Delone, Keith, Robert Earl, Freddie, Eddie, Naamon, Lyle, Larry and Demeturis; a host of cousins; sister-in-law, Victoria Brooks; brother-in-law, Fred (Donna) Poplar; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Miss Liz. Mrs. Poplar was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Poplar; grandchildren, Antwaine J. Poplar-Bey and Monica Poplar; parents, Ara and Kiah Hardnett; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Susie Poplar; 4 sisters, Arlene Cox, Martha Townsend, Reba Hancock and Gladys Holly; 4 brothers, Levi Hardnett, Nathiel, James and Uncle Dub. The family would like to express special thanks to All American Hospice, Miss Mary, and Hurley Medical Center. Thanks also goes to Shelia Poplar and Latasha Flowers for the special treatment for Mom in her final last days. Thank you all.
