SHIELDS, Mr. John Henry "Q.T."- Age 74, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11AM Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Greater Friendship Azusa C.O.G.I.C., G-5169 Detroit St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Superintendent Birdies Shields officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mr. Shields will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. John Henry “Q.T.” Shields was born July 14, 1934 in Rison, Arkansas, the son of the late George and Essie (Brewer) Shields, Sr. He was a resident of Mt. Morris, MI for 34 years. John attended Greater Friendship Azusa C.O.G.I.C. He was employed by General Motors Buick City for over 30 years before retiring in 1985. John enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. John “QT” leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Jo Ethyl of Flint; 3 daughters, Sandra Shields (fiance’, Leonard Jones), Melissa (John) Robinson and Julie (Anthony) Bailey; 2 sons, Eric and Terry Rushing; god-daughter, Brenda Feimster; 4 stepchildren, Anita Brown, Ed, Sophia and Cyrena Arnold; grandchildren, Terrance, Terry Jr. (Maria), Eric, Quinton, Wiley, Amar, Alice, Antwan, Mario, Devin, Jonice, John Jr., Eric Jr., Anthony, Sierra, Robrianna and Anthony Tyler; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, George (Allene) Shields of Rison, AR, Birdies (Naomi) Shields of Flint, Joshua (Martha) Shields of Pine Bluff, AR and Havis (Roxie) Shields, of Rison, AR; 3 sisters, Bobbie Jefferson of New York, Bessie (Peter) Alston of Deptford, NJ and Arzella (John) Thrower of Little Rock, AR; 45 nieces & nephews; 2 aunts, Bernice Anderson of Dallas, TX and Mary Shields of Rison, AR; mother-in-law, Ella Mae Brown; 11 sisters-in-law, Betty Hightower, Theresa Reid, Lula (Andrew) Tate, Mae Marsh, Barbara Reid, Vivian (Bobby) Abraham, Zandra Brown, Carrie Roberts, Evelyn Strickland, Julia Doby and Emma Render; 4 brothers-in-law, Arp Brown, Russell (Olivia) Brown, Charles Brown and Kenny (Bridget) Brown; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Shields; son, Clarence Rushing; parents, George and Essie Shields; brother, Wallace Shields; sister, Cloutean Danzy.
