Mrs. Jerdean (Geraldine) Chaney

April 21, 1952 - February 8, 2022

CHANEY, Mrs. Jerdean (Geraldine) - Age 69, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Rabon Turner, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Chaney will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday.Mrs. Jerdean “Geraldine” Chaney was born on April 21, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late J.P. Young and Rosetta Jones. From a young age Jerdean showed keen interest in education, helping others, and her love for the Lord. A life long learner Jerdean graduated from Mott Community College, Moody Bible Institute, and the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. At the University of Michigan she studied Psychology and earned her Masters of Social Work. She worked as a Social Worker, Therapist, and Psychologist in the Flint area for over 30 years before retiring from Hurley Mental Health Center. She was an active member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church where she assisted with the Sunday School Program.Jerdean enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, engaging with children whom she called little people, listening to anyone who needed to talk, and telling others about the wonderful word of Jesus Christ.Jerdean will be sadly missed by: son, Daniel Chaney of Norfolk, VA; bonus daughter, Keosha Taylor; brother, Yacob (Hazel) Young; sister, Audrey Muhammed. Mrs. Jerdean “Geraldine” Chaney leaves to cherish her memory: Mother Edna Chaney; thirteen special nieces and nephews, Maurice (Jackie) Pugh, Monique Pugh, Angie (Richard) Pugh, Tanisha Young, Jasmine (Rick) Newton, Charles Buford, Nina Buford, Ashley (Brandon) Grinage, Joseph (Donna) Chaney, Natasha Young, Aujanee Young, Autrece Young, and Dante Hendrix; Bonus sisters Erma (Thomas) Pugh, Penny (Melvin) Vickers, and brother Phillip (Chong Ye) Chaney. Jerdean leaves behind a host of cousins, extended family, and special friends to include Sister Rita Washington and God Daughter Dionne Mance.   Jerdean was preceded in death by her parents, J.P. Young and Rosetta Jones; brothers, T.P. Taylor, Ike Young and Donald Young; and best friend, Arnithia Burke.
