RICHARDSON, Mr. James Louis - Age 81, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Regency of Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, 5802 Fleming Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Eric Lewis Sr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Richardson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. James Louis Richardson was the first born to L. C. and Reable May (Scott) Richardson. Celebrating his birth, he brought much joy to this couple on June 14, 1940, in Rison, Arkansas. He accepted Christ at an early age at Tate’s Temple, Church of God in Christ under the late leadership of Elder C. L. Benton. James remained faithful to the church by participating in Sunday School, YPWW and singing in the Choir. Later he worshipped under the leadership of the late Bishop Fred Lewis, Bishop Roger L. Jones Sr., Pastor Timothy Stokes, and lastly Elder Eric Lewis, the son of the late Bishop Fred Lewis where he remained until death. After graduating from Lanwood High School in 1958, he attended A.M. & N. College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Majoring in Mechanical Engineering and running track were very challenging, while balancing life and studying to keep up with the demanding classroom obligations. After two years of college, he moved to Chicago, Illinois to help his family in Arkansas. A short stay in Chicago, Illinois led him to Flint, Michigan. James gained employment at Flint Truck & Bus Assembly, a division of General Motors Corporation. He was the first African American to obtain an Apprenticeship as a Millwright in a General Motors Plant. During his 48-year tenure, he also obtained his Associate Degree from Washtenaw Community College. James made several suggestions and decisions which were implemented and used toward the success of the plant. In Flint, was where he met the love of his life, Delphine Jackson. On April 22, 1962, they were united in marriage. James and Delphine had four children. Roderic (Vanessa), Lamantha, Ryan and LaShawn, who passed at the age of 8 yrs. old due to a sudden illness. James and Delphine had the opportunity to travel both stateside and abroad. James enjoyed traveling and visiting many countries. He united in marriage to Mamie Hamby, a God-sent mate from above. They were happily married over five years. He was a very active member of the church, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC), Flint, Michigan. His church duties included, serving as a Deacon and a member of the Usher Board. James enjoyed visiting elderly relatives and listening to family stories. James tried to live life to the fullest, putting God first and treating everyone with love and respect. His stress relievers were running and exercising, which ultimately became his hobbies. James Louis Richardson leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Mamie Richardson; 3 children, Roderic (Vanessa) Richardson of Nashville, Tennessee, Lamantha Richardson of McKinney, Texas and Ryan Richardson of Flint; 3 sisters, Charlene Richardson, Clara Fay (Bruce) Paris, both of Dallas, Texas and Patsy (Jesse) Newborn, Ph.D., San Antonio, Texas; 4 beautiful grandchildren, Daniel Richardson of Lansing, Michigan, LaShawn Richardson of McKinney, Texas, T.J. and VarSean, both of Nashville, Tennessee; 3 favorite aunts, Delphia Shields of Rison, Arkansas, Versie Lee Brandon of Gary, Indiana and Georgia Mae Scott, Marked Tree, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; favorite in-laws, Frank Tyler of Chicago, Illinois, Vernon (Debbie) Jackson of Denver, Colorado, Garland (Olive) Jackson of Las Vegas Nevada, Shirley Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Dorothy Tolbert, Mother Statha Lewis, both of Flint and Willie (Addie) Lewis of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and god-son, Cameron Williams. James was preceded in death by his wife of 48 plus years, the mother and grandmother of his lovely children and grandchildren, Delphine; daughter, LaShawn; parents, L. C. and Reable May Richardson; and sister, Martha Tyler.
