McGee, Mr. James Wesley - Age 70, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour is 10:30 AM Friday, January 15, 2021 at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Flint MI, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor James Wheeler, officiating. Mr. James Wesley will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday with family present from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to receive friends. James Wesley McGee “Jay” passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 in Flint Michigan after battling COVID-19. Jay was an accomplished Musician, Singer/Songwriter and Author who traveled and performed all over North America gaining accolades, friends and notable stories. Jay was born in January 23, 1950 in Lumberton North Carolina, the son James and Dorothy (McMillan) McGee. He was raised in Fayetteville NC. He moved to Flint, Michigan after graduating high school, then to Canada where he lived for over 25 years. Jay would later return to Flint working for MTA and even became politically active writing a song sending a message “Don't Drink The Water”! James Wesley McGee “Jay” leaves to cherish his memory: wife Carol Ann (Keziah); 16 children, Tyna Marie, Jimi Lynn, Ruth Ann, Valerie Nicole, Kevin, James Tremon, Nathan Ali, Tomas Joseph, Carrie Frances, Lena Marie, Dorothy-Grace, Deborah-Rowlene, Naomi-Faith, Joshua MacMillan, Jaymie-Ann, Jesse Clayton; 58 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; mother, Dorothy D. Murphy; 3 sisters, Debbie, Joyce and Dot; 2 brothers, Tony and Donny; many cousins, great childhood friends and a host of musical acquaintances. Jay was a member of Full Gospel Church in Flint where he actively ministered and worshiped through song. A favorite; (a North American wide favorite); an original song the he is noted for is... “If It Doesn't Have God In It.” Jay was preceded in death by his father, James McGee; sister, Lena Marie McGee; brother, Archie "Ray" McGee. The family would like to express special thanks to Jay’s ‘best friend’, Lewis Spears, Coworkers from MTA, Pastor Dr. James L. Wheeler, Pastor Dr. Jarvis Richardson, The Full Gospel Christian Church members, friends and acquaintances who have expressed condolences and words of encouragement.
