RUTLEDGE, Mother Evelyn - Age 100, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Monday, March 28, 2022, at Living Word Ministry, 2001 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Monday. Mother Rutledge will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Mother Evelyn A. Rutledge was born March 6, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn. to Mr. and Mrs. James and Charline (Wallace) Houston and was the last living child in a family of 10 brothers and sisters. Mother Rutledge graduated from high school in Memphis, Tenn. and attended Virginia State College. Upon moving to Flint, Michigan, she worked at AC Spark Plug Division (General Motors) for 30 years before retiring in 1982. She was fiercely independent, instilling the value of education, hard work and achievement into her children. She loved to crochet, garden and was quite the fashionista – before that was even a word! Mother Rutledge loved the Lord, having accepted Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent T. R. Harris at Elm Park Church of God in Christ, she worshipped for many years at Greater Holy Temple COGIC with Bishop R.L. Jones as pastor. She was currently a member of Living Word Ministry Church. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Mother Evelyn A. Rutledge leaves to cherish her memory: son, Eugene Rutledge III of Grand Blanc, Mich.; daughters, Constance Rutledge of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Rochelle (Dennis) Ware of Plano, Texas; granddaughter, Jazmin Ware, grandson, Brandon Ware, great-granddaughter, Jordan Washington, all of Plano, Texas; godson, Charles Michael Smith; sisters-in-love, Lillian Houston (Lawrenceville, Georgia) and Orlena Kennedy (Merrillville, Indiana); special friends Mother Rogerine LeFlore, Mother Ozzie Rideout and Mother Mary Woolfolk; “other children” whom she loved as her own, Eunice Anderson, Marilyn Ellis, Jim and Yvonne Outland, Rick Stephen; nieces, including special nieces Brenda Billups, Mary Joy Gentry, Saundra Houston, Pamela Nealy, Leslie Purdy, all from Atlanta, Georgia; nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and family friends. Mother Rutledge was preceded in death by parents, James and Charline Houston; grandparents, Charles and Anna Wallace; sisters, Gladys Gentry and Mildred Anderson; brothers, Charles James (C.J.), Samuel, Osie, Arthur James, Edward, Robert, and Walton Houston. The family would like to express special thanks to Elder J.D. Hayter and members of Living Word Ministry Church, and all of the friends and family who have supported us during this time.
