Eugene Simpson was born in Leland, Mississippi, the son of Henry and Bertha Simpson Jr. Eugene moved from Leland, Mississippi at an early age and was a resident of Flint until God called him home on July 26, 2021. He graduated from Flint Northwestern High School in 1976 and was previously employed at General Motors and Delmonte Warehouse. Eugene had several nicknames including, Gene, Doug, James Brown, Flint, and Chief. Eugene accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 2015. Eugene was one the most kind hearted people you would ever want to meet. He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it was going to help you. Eugene would lend a helping hand in any way possible. Eugene was everybody’s favorite handyman and he was very engaged with lawn work and gardening. Eugene kept half of the lawns on Home St. looking better than what TruGreen does. Eugene was exceptionally good at painting; he could paint freestyle just like a professional. Eugene would also attempt to do plumbing, electrical work and even fix on cars but we all know he was definitely not a professional in these areas. Eugene was an extremely well-liked person. His friends and family on Home St. always looked out for him especially Mrs. Black, Shirley, Mattie, Verdell and Curry. Both Shirley and Curry took really good care of Gene without being paid a penny. Eugene looked up to Shirley like a big sister and considered Mrs. Black to be his second mom, but would always say to his sister Barbara, “You my momma too.” Eugene depended on Barbara for everything and she would always go running whenever he called. Eugene was big on family and he loved his children dearly. He loved family gatherings, drinking, dancing, good music and taking pictures. Eugene was always the life of the party. Eugene Simpson leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Kambre Brown and LaKeisha Simpson; son, Deonta Brown; 3 grandchildren, Lyriq Brown, Deonta Brown Jr. and Nori Evans, all of Birmingham, Alabama; 2 brothers, Walter Jordan and Charles (Lynita) Simpson; 2 sisters, Vondella Flynn, all of Flint, MI and Barbara (David) Scott of Mt.
