JOHNSON, Mr. Eric James "Ricky" - Age 61, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at his residence. Zoom Funeral Service 3:00 PM Saturday, September 18, 2021. Family & friends that wish to participate for the Zoom Service can log on to Zoom.us/join prior to 3:00 PM ID#: 5063941599 and the Password is: 0049254. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, September 17, 2021. Eric James Johnson was born on January 4, 1960 in Flint, MI. Eric is the 3rd child of Frank and Ollie Johnson. Eric was a resident in Swartz Creek, MI. He was a high school graduate of Flint Northwestern in 1978. His beloved Wildcats were like another family, especially when it came to sports. He played baseball for his Dad’s team, Fish King alongside his brothers and numerous neighborhood friends. Eric wrestled, played football and basketball throughout his school years. He then went on to attend Arizona Western College on a football scholarship, in Yuma, AZ. Eric left Arizona and relocated to Louisville, KY with the intentions of playing football for the University of Louisville. It was in Louisville, KY that Eric diligently studied the Bible and dedicated his life to becoming a Jehovah’s Witness. He was baptized in September of 1982. Eric developed many relationships that allowed him to build bridges, and offer viable opportunities for other family members, coming to live in Louisville right after him, sister, Yvonne and brother, Michael. Eric worked several jobs including Anheuser-Busch, as a District Manager for Eagle Snacks. He moved from Atlanta, GA in 2013 relocating to Flint, MI. Eric worked as a Laborer for ZF TRW Automotive in Fenton, MI. He was an active member of the Western Hills Congregation in Flint, MI and served as a Ministerial Servant. Eric was a joy to all he met, he encouraged and offered good words to all with whom all he was in contact. He was impressionable, personable and loved people, especially children. Eric appreciated all genres of music, especially Jazz and R & B. He adored his family dearly and doted over his mother. His Dad, Big Frank was more than a father, but also his mentor, confidante and friend. Eric was very protective of his family, especially his 2 sisters, Patrice and Yvonne. He was their sunshine. He spent a lot of quality time with Patrice, Yvonne and youngest brother, Michael. Remembering all the joy Eric brought to others, he asked for so little but gave so very much. He leaves to relish in his memory, his mother, Ollie Johnson of Flint Township, MI; 3 brothers, Keith (Alicia) Johnson of Flint Township, MI; Larry Johnson of Flint, MI; brother Michael (Raven) Johnson of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 sisters, Patrice (Lamar) Prosser of Flint Township, MI and Yvonne (James) Tribble of Atlanta, GA. 5 Nephews, Myron (Courtney) Horton of Arkadelphia, AR; Mario (Tatiana) Johnson of Lansing, MI; DeMarco Britton of Russellville, AR; Coleman Strickland of Atlanta, GA and Carter Johnson of Detroit, MI. 5 Nieces, Kennedy Johnson of Charlotte, NC; Paryss Prosser of Flint, MI; Ca’Ron Horton of Arkadelphia, AR; Brooklynn Brown and Schuyler Johnson, both of Grand Blanc, MI. Beloved lifelong friends, Jamie Caldwell, Ralph Elliott, Craig Wheeler, Craig Tucker, Dale Alexander, Julius Strange, Kenneth Golden and Mike Crudder. Eric was predeceased by his father, Frank Johnson; brother, Mark Johnson; grandparents, Edgar Mallett and Laurie Body; and Irene (Burks) Kirkland and Marion Johnson; and Uncle, John E. Mallett “Buddy”. The love in our family flows strong and deep, leaving us memories to treasure and keep. We look forward to the day when 1 Corinthians 15:54,55 is brought to fruition, “. . .death is swallowed up forever. . . death where is your victory? Death where is your sting?” The Johnson Family expresses sincere gratitude towards the Western Hills and Flushing Congregations of Michigan, a special acknowledgment to the Body of Elders at Western Hills Congregation; and all of our friends that have called, texted, cried, prayed and provided to and for our families.
