Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins

HAWKINS, Mrs. Dorothy - Age 82, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, April 4. 2022 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 North Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Samuel Berry III, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 :00 AM Monday. Mrs. Hawkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd.., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Sunday. Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hawkins was born October 22, 1939, in Smithville, Georgia, the youngest child of Fred and Lillie D. Young. Dorothy was baptized by Rev. Ira Watkins at an early age. She graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1959.” Dorothy retired from Hurley Medical Center after 39.5 years of service. She was a past volunteer with the Children’s Miracle Network, a member of GCCARD, Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (T.O.P.S.), member of Smithville Neighborhood Association, Sunday School Teacher and Nurses Guild Member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Dorothy loved attending the St. John Street Reunion, cooking for family gatherings, shopping, doing Word Search Puzzles and baking pound cakes. She loved so many people that anytime you would come over she would want to make something special for you. Mrs. Dorothy Jean Hawkins leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Trina and Yolanda (Katie) Stewart; son, Marlon Hawkins, all of Flint; special son, Derrick Nelson; grandchildren, Sharita Stewart, Prestina Stewart, Jason Chandler, Jacob Neeley, Audrey (Tywan) Sanders, all of Flint and Eugene Stewart of Columbus, OH; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including, god-parents, William and Mamie Holden, many god-sons, god-daughters and many many special friends too numerous to name. Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillie Young; sister, Cora Hammett and Dora (Charles) Garvins; brother, James William; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center ICU nurses, Morgan, Richelle, Samantha, Mitch, Max and Brian, Pastor Samuel Berry III and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church family, Pastor Ezra Tillman Jr. and First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church family, family and friends near and far.
