GORDON, Mrs. Dorothy Louis - Age 92, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, December 27, 2021 at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Jessie McIntosh officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. Gordon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Dorothy Louise Banks Gordon was born April 30, 1929 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She is the daughter of the late John A. and Julia C. Banks. She graduated from Campbell County Training School in 1947. Dorothy worked at Lynchburg Hosiery Mill from 1949 until it’s closing. Then she went on to work for Imperial Reading Co. until 1966. Dorothy moved to Flint, Michigan in 1966. She retired from Consolidated Packaging Company in 1991. Dorothy accepted Jesus at an early age at Brookville Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia where she served on the Outreach Ministry and the Usher Board. Upon moving to Flint, she joined and was a faithful member of King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church. She also served as a part of the Mother’s Board until her health declined. In 1948 she married Charlie E. Beverly Sr. From this union 5 children were born. In 1977 she married the late Jerome Gordon. They were happily married for 33 years. Dorothy was a devoted wife. She took care of her husband with JOY until his passing. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children and grandchildren. Dorothy loved cooking and baking. She was the ultimate host. Dorothy always had something for you to eat if you came by. She feed many of the neighborhood kids. Dorothy loved to travel with her husband and vacation to different places with her family. She loved to coordinate family beach trips. Dorothy enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She loved to go shopping and to buy gifts for her herself and her family. Dorothy Louise Banks Gordon leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Joanne (Raymond) Copeland of Madison Heights, VA, Dolores (John) Edmonds of Flint, MI and Patsy (Garry) Smith of Nashville, TN; son, Charlie Earl Beverly Jr.; 3 step-children, Jerome Gordon Jr., Victor (Elsie Renae) Gordon and Linda (Johnny) Darby; 11 grandchildren, Raymond (Marivell) Copeland Jr, Adrian Copeland, Geno Pea, Demond Beverly, Ja-Lair (Tenika) Flynn, Angela (Seon) Thompson, Marcie (Adrian) Beard, Adrianne and Brittany Darby, Shelby and Camille Gordon; 9 great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Julius, Bianka (Keith), Amaya, Kenya, Taylor, Miles, Sydney, and Jordan; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Lexington, Kenzington, Carrington and Bella; sister, Betty Joyce Johnson of Lynchburg, Virginia; very special lifelong friend, Marie Whitehead; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Martha Burnett. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Gordon; daughter, Linda Bailey; grandson, Troy Avery Copeland; parents, John and Julia Banks; siblings, Edward, Mary, Laura, Walker, Lesley, Raymond, Wilbert, Robert and Kenneth. . The family would like to give special thanks to special caregiver Donna Brown, Pastor Jessie McIntosh and the entire King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church family.
