BROWN, Mr. Dennis Ray Sr. - Age 75, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Mr. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday, August 1, 2022. Dennis Ray Brown Sr. of Flint, Michigan departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Hurley Medical Center after a battle with Renal failure and Liver cancer. Dennis was born on January 11, 1947, in Portland, Oregon to Ada B. Washington Brown and Thomas Brown. Dennis was the first of two children born to this union. Dennis was reared in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by the love of his mother’s devoted family of sisters, brothers, and parents. He was the first child born into the Washington family. His early years of education were in Tulsa Public Schools. The family relocated to Flint, Michigan during his final year of High School. He continued his studies in Architect and Engineer Design at Mott Community College. He later attended Baker College enrolling in Semi Tractor Trailer operation. Dennis met and married Patricia Shackelford on March 26, 1971 to this union two children were born. Dennis was employed by Genesee County Parks and Recreation. He later joined General Motors Fisher Body Coldwater Road Division and retired after 24 years of employment. Dennis played the drums, loved Jazz and served as the family historian. Dennis Ray Brown Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Rhonda Brown Cotton, Las Vegas, Nevada; sons, Eric Bates, Fairfield, California; Dennis R. Brown Jr.; Ahmand (Maia) Brown I; Jamal Bacon; bonus children, James Williams, Dawn Banks, LaTonya Bacon; Patricia Shackelford Brown; sister, Shirleen V. Brown Newman, Fairfax, Virginia; step sister, Ellen Manly; half sisters Anita Smith, Benita Presley; half brother, Jeffery W. Brown; stepmother, Jenelle Brown, Portland, Oregon; 22 Grand-children; 25 Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Rose Williams, special sister; Willie Florence, special brother.
