Delores Yvonne (Hill) Boaz, affectionately known as “Lolo” and “Aunt Lolo” to the many who loved her, was born on May 23, 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama. Delores was the first-born child of Wallace Hill, Jr. and Bettie Jean (Reed) Hill. With her Mother and Father in search of starting a new life, Delores moved to Flint, Michigan at the age of 2 along with her parents and infant brother. Delores was charismatic, effervescent and full of fire even as a very young child. According to stories told by her mother, she could sometimes be found at the next-door neighbor’s house as young as 3 years old visiting with the elders and having “grown” conversations. Delores came into the knowledge of God and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Canaan Baptist Church. Delores went to Flint Public Schools, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1962. She was a very gifted typist, organizer and administrator beginning her work life immediately after High School and many times, breaking barriers as the “first” African American female to land a job with certain financial organizations. Her places of employment include The Butler Funeral Home (1963-1964), Associates Finance Company (1962-1970), Genesee Bank (1970-1973), Flint Housing Commission (1973-1976) and Hurley Hospital Pharmacy (1976-1980). Delores’s final job was with The Equitable Life Assurance Company during a year spent in Chicago, Illinois. Delores Yvonne Hill married Robert Lewis Boaz on December 6, 1968. Their marriage was not blessed with biological children but they were second parents to her baby sister as well as many nieces and nephews. Delores spent most of the 1980s as a full-time wife until her husband’s passing in 1989. She devoted the rest of her life to her siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and most especially, her mother, whom she lived with and helped to care for until her passing in 2014. Delores loved the Lord with all her heart. She loved singing in the choir until her health would not allow her to. Oh, but when she was singing, she did it from the depths of her soul, and all the congregation enjoyed her special way of “dancing” as she worshiped. Even when she had to stop singing full time, she was right there, on her row at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church getting her praise on every Sunday! Delores had a sharp mind and loved doing puzzles that required thought. She had a heart to give, sharing annually with the American Heart Association, American Kidney Fund and to Women’s Health and Cancer Research. She was detailed in taking care of her business right until the end. Delores Yvonne (Hill) Boaz leaves to cherish her sweet memory: her devoted siblings, Reverend Wallace (Shirley) Hill, III of Flint, Evangelist Janice Hill of Farmington Hills, MI, Alvin (Victoria) Hill of New Kensington, PA, Jacqueline (Dunell) Chaney of Oxford, MI. 8 Nephews, Charles Montgomery, Wallace (SaVille) Hill IV, Rodrick Hill (Cintaria Bond), all of Flint, Darrell Hill of Indianapolis, IN, Corey Chaney of Norfolk, VA, Tyrone (Tiffany) Jenkins, Alvin (Stephanie) Hill II, Victor (Kathy) Hill all of Pittsburgh, PA. 1 Niece, Alisia (Marques) Johnson of Oxford, MI.
