CALHOUN, Mr. Carl T. - Age 73, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022, at his residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, April 2, 2022, at New Heaven Missionary Baptist Church, G-3184, W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:30 AM Pastor Joseph Jenkins, officiating. Entombment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Calhoun will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Carl Thomas Calhoun transitioned from his earthly life of his new heavenly home on March 27, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Carl was born October 7, 1948 in Huntsville, Alabama, the son of Mary Elizabeth Young and Jimmy Briggs. He accepted Christ at an early age. Carl graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1968.” His hobbies were bowling, track & field, and he specialized in pole vault. Carl loved sports, hanging out with his grandkids, and going on family vacations. He was employed at General Motors Corporation for 32.4 years, retiring in 2000. On May 10, 1970, Carl crossed paths with the love of his life, Brenda Carrington. They dated for 11 years, on January 31, 1981, they became Mr. & Mrs. Carl Calhoun. Carl was a man who held several titles, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and a heck of a friend. Mr. Carl Thomas Calhoun leaves to cherish his memory: loving and dedicated wife, Brenda Calhoun; children, William Carrington, Carmel Vaughn and Carla (Gene) Bell; 9 grandchildren, Dewan Carrington, Brittney (Nate) Malone, Britanica and Brenda Frazier, Carl M. Calhoun, Lakeia Towns, Ariel (Jamil) Hamza, LaGena and Gimera Bell, and Jalynn Curl; 18 great-grandchildren; father, Jimmy Briggs; siblings, Beverly Jackson, Dr. Brenda Williams of California, Charles Young, Darryl Young, Tara Wright of Ohio, Jonathan Briggs, and D’Juan Briggs; sister-in-law, Barbara Manuel; extended family, Arlean Montgomery and family, John and Mildred Allen and family, Steve and Barbara Stephens, Art and Eleanora Edmonds, Lester and Paula Fykes, Elder Jack and Doris Mitchell, Percy Knapp and family, Doretha Stone and Tellis Thompson; special nieces and nephews, Sylvia (Troy) Campbell, Nina Harris, Leatrese (Mark) Hopkins, Stacy Harris, Kenyatta Brown, Regina (Larry) Dunn and Belinda Manuel; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Raymond Charles who is also his barber, John Gaines, Jessie Kirksey, Josh Thompson, Michael Hughes, Paul Hood, Johnny Brown, Albert Robertson, Lula Lewis, Iris Hare, Rose Handley, Floyd and Sue Johnson, Cora Thompson. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Herman) Young; step-mother, Luvenia Briggs; grandparents, Charlie (Kate) Calhoun, Sophie Calhoun, Elsie Briggs Humphrey and Annie Young; sister, Peggy; brother, Timothy Young; friends, Carnell Brown, Alfred Holland, James Washington, A.C. and Laverne Chambers, Samantha and Frank Robertson.
