HENDRICKS, Mrs. Bettye Jean - Age 74, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 10:00 AM Saturday, April 23, 2022 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with Funeral Service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Hendricks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Bettye Jean Hendricks “BJ” was born October 20, 1947 in Homer, Louisiana, the daughter of Lessie Hendricks and Rosemary (Copeland) Lilly. Bettye was a resident of Flint, Michigan. She graduated from Flint Central High School, “Class of 1964.” Bettye completed college courses from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan-Flint with one semester left to complete her Degree in Communications and African Studies. Bettye was the Founder of African American Inspiration at WFLT-AM 1420 every Saturday Morning since 2006. Prior to entering Broadcasting she completed her career with General Motors/Delphi in the Accounting, Purchasing and Supplier Diversity. Bettye has volunteered at Ruth Mott Foundation Applewood for over 10 years. She was a member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church and sang with the Inspirational Voices. Bettye was the recipient of Courageous Student Award (2011), Phi Delta Kappa “Hall of Living Legends” (2012), Quintin L. Marshall Sr. Lifetime Legacy Award (2021). Bettye was a Board Member of Women in Education Foundation for Mott Community College. Mrs. Bettye Jean Hendricks “BJ” leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Nikki Rochelle Dorsey of Houston, TX; son, Gilbert Earl Dorsey II of Flint; granddaughter, Briella Eliza Rose Robinson of Houston, TX; 2 sisters, Donna Hendricks and Debra Hendricks; 2 brothers, Alvin Hendricks and Cornell Hendricks; nieces, Falen Williams, Ciara Williams, Crystal Bell, Christina Bell, and Jasmine Stafford; nephews, Alvin Hendricks Jr., Grayson Hendricks, Roger Williams and Damon Pillow; in-laws, Marilyn Hendricks, Lisa Hendricks and Henry Moore; cousins, Billie Lindo, Janice Gilmore, Constance Williams-Slappy, Cloyce Dickerson, Lorna Appleton and Jimmy Appleton; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Shawnta Van Hook Williams, Chevella Davis, Willie Robinson, Perry Turner, Estella Gould, Delores Richardson and Bonnie Bell Guillory Ford. Mrs. Hendricks was preceded in death by her parents, Lessie Hendricks and Rosemary (Copeland) Lilly; bonus mother, Bettye Hendricks; sister, Ida Bishop and Venita Williams; brother, Christopher Williams; nephew, Melvin Bishop; aunts, Hattie Hendricks and Lorraine Copeland; uncles, Willie Copeland, Elijah Copeland, Christopher Copeland and Coleman Hendricks; and cousin, Daisy Pillow.
