HATHORN, Mrs. Bessie - Age 75, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021 in Madison, Mississippi. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Allen C. Overton Sr., officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Friday. Mrs. Hathorn will lie in state at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and may be viewed during the family hour only. A TIME TO BE BORN Bessie was born on July 26, 1946 to the late Jimmy “Dee” McIntosh and Helen Johnson McIntosh of Dekalb, MS. A TIME TO ACQUIRE Bessie attended the Kemper County School system where she later graduated from Whisenton HS in Dekalb, MS in 1965. Upon graduating from high school, she furthered her education by enrolling in college at Jackson State University. A TIME TO LIVE AND LOVE Two years later, on March 11, 1967 Bessie married her true love of fifty four years (54), Johnnie Herschel Hathorn in Flint, Michigan. Two children were born to this beautiful union, one daughter and one son. A TIME OF SERVICE She confessed Jesus Christ at an early age and joined the St. Mark United Methodist Church in Dekalb, MS. After getting married and moving to Michigan, Bessie joined Canaan Baptist Church in 1967 currently known as Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted and faithful member. She enjoyed attending Sunday School weekly, and serving on the floral committee. Bessie worked at Hudson’s Department Store currently known as Macy’s for over 30 years as a Sales Representative until she retired in 2008. Bessie enjoyed her life and expressed it though shopping, exercising, and traveling to the South to visit family and spoiling her grandchildren. Bessie loved her family unconditionally. She also expressed her love for others by helping those in need. A TIME TO REST On Friday, December 24, 2021, Bessie transitioned from her earthly life to everlasting life at the age of 75. Left to cherish her memories and a legacy of love are her husband, Johnnie Herschel Hathorn of Flint, Michigan; her daughter, Kimberly Hathorn Burns (Fredrick) of Madison, MS; son, Daryl M. Hathorn of Jackson, MS; granddaughter, Destiny Burns of Madison, MS); three grandsons, Colby Burns of Dallas, TX, Jaelyn Yarber of Clinton, MS and Jonathan Burns of Madison, MS; five siblings. Callie Hollingsworth of Crystal, MN, Alma Brown (Mack) of Collinsville, MS, Jessie L. McIntosh (Jean), Elmer McIntosh Sr, and Myrd McIntosh, all of Dekalb, MS; sister-in-law, Nancy McIntosh of Dekalb, MS; uncle, Leslie McIntosh of Albany, NY; aunt, Jean Roberts of East St. Louis, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Barbara and John Cook, Sarah Jackson, Hattie Hunter (Caregiver and Friend); special niece, Carol McIntosh. Bessie was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy “Dee” McIntosh; mother, Helen Johnson McIntosh; two brothers, Jim Henry McIntosh and Holidee McIntosh; two sisters, Lillian McIntosh Johnson and Alice McIntosh Poole; paternal grandparents, Henry McIntosh and Callie Grady McIntosh; maternal grandparents, James “Jim” Johnson and Georgia Jack Johnson.
