LAY, Ms. Athea Angelica Age - 31, passed away Wednesday, April 28,2021 at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, May 8, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor George Hodges, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Saturday. Ms. Lay will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Ms. Athea “Ms. Kitty” Lay was born November 27, 1989 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Theodore McGinnis and Crystal Lay. Athea Angelica Lay entered into this world fighting to live. She was diagnosed early with cerebral palsy and autism. Against all odds she was able to learn walk at the age of 9. Although she was never able to speak words, she was definitely able to communicate her needs and wants, sometimes in a feisty way. She had her own special ways to share her affections with the ones she loved including her infamous “meow”. She completed her schooling in Gaylord MI. She enjoyed listening to music and watching her favorite tv shows that included Veggie Tales and Cops. She could always be found twirling with her fingers and hands. She was collector at heart and these items included sticks, rocks, cords and boxes to mention a few. She loved sitting out in the sun. She loved her mom. The condition that she was born with kept her maintained in a child like state never attaining the use of reason. It’s because of this, we have the assurance that she entered the world with a One-Way Ticket Back To Heaven! Now she has cashed in her Golden Ticket and has returned to our Father in Heaven! Joy fills our spirits but our Tiny will surely be missed. Ms. Athea “Ms. Kitty” Lay leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Crystal Lay; grandparents, Anthony and Ella Fehrenbach, all of Saint Ignace, MI; sister, Chasity Lay of Clarksville, TN; brother, DeMarcus Lay of Saint Ignace, MI; 2 niece, Aniya and Aliyanna Charleston; 3 nephews, Antonio Louis, Adein Lay, all of Clarksville, TN and Jaymien Lay of Sault Ste Marie, MI; aunt, Felicia Lay; great-aunt, Ann Hopson, both of Clarksville, TN; 4 uncles, Willie and Kervin (Kietsa) Lay of Jackson, MS, Undre (Erneisha) Lay of Snellville, GA and Rundre (Tina) Lay of Redford, MI; 22 cousins, Rayonna, Ondray, AhQuan, Felicia, Tiondra Lay, D’Andrew Duffie, Malik Kidd, Shakor Body, Jeronn Martinez, Keondrick Sweet, all of Michigan, Rae’kel Lay, Chachet Lay-Brown, Keara Dunson, Gabrielle Grigsby, all of Tennessee, Kansia Johnson, Ahmire Lay, Brandon Veal, all of Georgia, Jamonte Sweet of Oregon, Monterro Smith and JaMarriuss, both of Indiana, Malik Benson and DeMario Owens, both of Mississippi; a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Lay was preceded in death by her grandfather, Willie Lay; and uncle, Dennis Body. The family would like to express special thanks to her exteneded family on Dakota Ave. in Gaylord, MI, Alexis, Amanda, Amanda, Beth and Jen. We appreciate you all!
