MANNING, Mr. Artis "Rico" - Age 75, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, January 14, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Manning will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Artis “Rico” Manning was born January 4, 1946 in Jayess, Mississippi, the 6th of 14 children born to Oliver and Hazel (Gutter) Manning. Artis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church in Jayess, MS. Upon moving to Flint, Michigan, he united with the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle congregation. He graduated from McCullough High School in Mississippi. Rico was employed at and retired from Chevrolet Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local #659. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Rico was Honorably Discharged. He was also a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans Commander Club. Rico’s activities over the years included playing flag football and softball. He attended the NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournaments for over 40 years and was a faithful member of the McDonald’s Breakfast Club on Ballenger Hwy. Rico loved his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory: 4 daughters, Tamara Abrahm of Columbia, MS, Artrese Manning of Sylvania, OH, Ashley Fleming of Mt. Morris, MI and Seleta Johnson of Maryland; grandchildren, Marcus, Solomon, Tamera, Tiffany, Jayden, Sa’umya, Cadence, Nikolias and Lauren; 6 sisters, Betty Brown, Sara Hill, Nell Ulmer, Mearl Manning, Kepsa Thomas, all of Flint and Lillie Magee of Jayess, MS; 2 brothers, Kellie Manning and Bill Manning, both of Flint; dedicated companion, Senena Moore of Mt. Morris, MI; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillie Manning of Foxworth, MS and Modean Manning of Columbia, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, favorite nephew, Ardre Manning; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Marilyn Sams, Tezell Morris, Lloyd Cabell, Barry Banks, Jimmy Wells, Russell Bethany, the Genesee St. Block Club and the Mott Bruins Booster Club. Rico was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Hazel Manning; sister, Nettie Grace Green (2015); brothers, James “Pete” Maning (2014), Oliver “OJ” Manning (2018) and Robert “Bob” Manning (2021). The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Herbert Miller II, Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle family and the McLaren-Flint ER staff. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle Scholarship Program.
