HAWKINS, Mr. Albert - Age 73, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021 at McLaren - Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, May 13,2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Keith J. Bigelow, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Thursday. Mr. Hawkins will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00PM-6:00 PM Wednesday. Albert Hawkins Jr. was born July 9, 1947 in Sherrill, Arkansas, the son of Albert Hawkins Sr. and Ever Lee Crumpton Hawkins. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and attended Pine Hill Baptist Church. He later joined Morning Star MBC in Flint, Michigan under the leadership of Rev. E. L. Girley Sr. “Hawk”, a nickname from childhood, graduated from Merrill High School in 1965. He attended University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff Arkansas and Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. Al, a car buff, natural storyteller, master chef, proud husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and brother or, June, as his family affectionately called him, was a fighter, but God ended his fight on May 6th, at McLaren Hospital in Flint, Michigan. In 1967 Al moved to Flint and for more than two decades he worked at the former General Motors Manufacturing Complex known as Buick City. Al retired from Buick but never stopped working. He was also an entrepreneur, owning the Trumbull Avenue Apartments in Flint since 1979. His first job as a 6th grader was delivering the “Arkansas Gazette.” Al also enjoyed Sports, working in his yard, talking with people, cooking and feeding people. When people think of Al, the word motivator comes to mind. It describes his character and values. Constantly motivating his family to never give up, master a skill, and to move forward with confidence. He loved his family and was always there for them. Mr. Albert Hawkins Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 31 years, Mrs. Carolyn Reeves Hawkins; son, Carlos (Adrean) Hawkins; daughter, Valeria Hawkins; step-daughter, Sharon Reeves (Michael Harris); step-sons, Ronnie Ashley Jr. and Rodney (Marella) Ashley; sisters, Gloria (Reverend Paul Broaddus) and Auderella Hawkins; brother, Ronnie Hawkins; granddaughter, Bri'Anna Croom; grandsons, Jared Armour, Carlos Hawkins II, Gregory Jr., Jalen and Juwan Croom and Michael 'JD' Harris; five great-grand-children; aunt, Ora Lee Hawkins; mother in law, Mrs. Annie F. Reid; 6 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends including special niece and nephew, Adrienne Broaddus and Gregory Mason Jr. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Bettye Hawkins; parents, Albert Sr. and Ever Lee Crumpton Hawkins.; grandparents, 3 brothers, James, Kenneth, and Ricky Hawkins; uncles, aunts, nephew and great-granddaughter.
