Mrs. Adrienne Oliver Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

OLIVER, Mrs. Adrienne - Age 92, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Regency of Grand Blanc in Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM, Pastor Rabon Turner, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church Wednesday, at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Oliver will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Public viewing will be held only during the family hour on Wednesday. Mrs. Adrienne Oliver was born January 11, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Robert Tecumseh and Ethel Melissa (Jefferies) Wilson. Adrienne attended Clark Elementary, Allen Park Elementary, Whittier Junior High and graduated from Flint Central High School, “Class of 1948. She was employed at AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors Corporation for 35 years where she retired in 1985. She was united in marriage to Square Stinson and then 1954 to Jerome “Jerry” W. Oliver, they were married for 55 years. Adrienne was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and then Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church (founded by her cousin, Lindell Brady). She served on the committee that did the interior decorating of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, she even painted the baby cribs. Adrienne was especially proud of her family’s role in the Civil Rights Movement in Kansas {Aunt Lucinda Todd-Brown}, coffee with Delmus (Monday-Friday), being there for and with Bobbie, her special mother daughter relationship with Stephanie, her special baby boy, “Jappy” and the traveling club. Adrienne enjoyed traveling to Paris, France, Nassau Bahamas, Hawaii, St. Thomas, Las Vegas and whenever the Trumpet Awards were being filmed. She also enjoyed talking on the phone with family and friends, playing with her iPad, following her son’s football career, attending games and watching on TV, swimming and enjoying her pool with family and friend for over 30 years, westerns, soap operas (the Young and the Restless, and the Bold and the Beautiful, along with action movies. Adrienne loved decorating. She was an immaculate housekeeper. Adrienne enjoyed conversations with neighbors and the countless people who would stop by her home on the corner of Evergreen and Kent Street. She loved entertaining family during the holidays, Christmas and decorating her home inside and outside. Adrienne is featured in the book, Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City, by, Gordon Young. In it he recounts the story of race relations in Flint and the friendship between Mrs. Oliver and his mother, Patricia McFarland. Quote from Adrienne, just say “I enjoyed life.” Her favorite passage of scripture is: Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Mrs. Adrienne Oliver leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Stephanie (Stinson) Henderson; son, Jerome Wayne Oliver III; other “claimed” children, Arthur Henderson, Wanda Harden and Diane Owens; grandchildren, Dorian Henderson, Brooke Scott Devone, Justin Oliver of New York and Candace (Ronnie) O’Neill of Colorado; great-grandchildren, Dorian Jr., Amaya, Princeton, Marissa, Makayla and Camden; sister, , Bobbie Lyle; brother, Delmas (Audrey) Wilson; in-laws, Sandra and Willie Demps, Kenneth “Plum” Oliver and Reginald “Jellybean” Oliver; nieces and nephews, Jakki Watkins, Kevin Spencer and Adrienne “Meliss” Simpson; special cousins, Judge Paul Brady, Xernona Clayton Brady, Carol Jean and Chris Allen, Jill and Ray Gist, Margaret Ann Banks, Marion Collins and Helen Edwards; a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome “Jerry” W. Oliver II; former husband, Square Stinson; son, Shelton Stinson; sisters, Sharon (Jack P.) Stinson, brothers-in-law; William Lyle and Decellar Spencer; nephews, Bradley Simpson and Rennie Spencer.The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Dr. Rabon L.
