Winifred Irby-Baxter

BAXTER-IRBY, Mrs. Winifred - Age 60, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at her residence. Family hour 10AM Monday, December 11, 2006 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Rev. Milton Gibson officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Monday. Mrs. Irby-Baxter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 11AM-8PM Sunday. Winifred Lois Irby-Baxter was born on August 24, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She is the only girl and 3rd eldest child of Morell and Jasper Irby Sr. She was a resident of Flint for most of her life wherein she matriculated through the Flint school system graduating from Flint Central High School in 1964. Winifred married her high school sweetheart, Jewell Baxter, Sr. and three children were born to this union. Jewell Baxter, Jr., Sean Ramon Baxter, and Kimberly Michelle Baxter-Brown. Winifred obtained an Associates Degree from Mott Community College, and a Business Administration Degree from Spring Arbor College. She was employed as a cashier for K-Mart Foods; also at Chevrolet Division as a Customer Service Representative and later transferred to the General Motors Corporation for twenty-one years continuing as a Customer Service Representative. She took great pride in her ability to satisfy her customers by taking a personal interest in their needs. Many spoke of her pleasing personality, and often asked for her personal intervention in their causes. Winifred immensely loved and truly enjoyed her children and her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Her love for them knew no bounds. Winifred never met a stranger. She was always very congenial and a ray of light to many. Many will remember her beautiful smile and pleasing personality. Winifred loved to entertain others and the idea of bringing people together. She opened up her home to many to visit and also to stay. Winifred was the Irby family historian and made sure that she had a total recall of the family legacy. She was a member of the Potpourri Club. The club had a mission of outreach to the community, helping those in need; and awarding scholarships for students to continue their educational pursuits. Winifred will be sadly missed and leaves to cherish her sweet memory 3 children, beloved sons, Jewell, Jr., and Sean Baxter, and beloved daughter, Kimberly (Arnold) Brown, all of Flint, Michigan; five grand-daughters; Ti'Lia, Ashanti, and Triniti Baxter; Sheonna (Perrin-Brown), and Kendall Brown; 2 brothers, Joe (Jerlyn) Jackson, and Jasper (Nancy) Irby of Flint; 2 nieces, Sibyl Jackson of Detroit, and India Irby of Holly; special sister-in-law, Estella Irby-Simpkins; many nephews, including Winston (Linda) Stephens, Elvin, Jr (Monique), Ecouvillon (Kimberly), and Jason Irby all of Flint; 2 aunts, Florida Mae (Morris) Johnson of Flint and Georgia Irby of Los Angeles, CA; uncles, Arnese (Lois) McAfee of Saginaw, MI., and Clarence Hawkins of Flint; many cousins, including special cousins, Faye Washington, Sharlene Parker, Michelle, Berdette, and Ray Hawkins, J.D. and Narvelle Irby of Wabbaseka, Arkansas; a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her. special friends, Lydia Coleman, Joyce Barnett, Jane Clark, Milton Gibson, Jean Wooten, Cheryl Price-Dixon, Barbara Harper, Patricia Hennie, Tommie Beverly, Jacqueline Gibson, Francine Houston, Beverly Polk, Jay Norman and Sonya Willis. Winifred was proceeded in death by three beautiful grandchildren, Alexandra, Anthony, and Sydni Brown; her loving parents, Jasper and Morrell Irby; brother, Elvin Irby, Sr.; nephew, Joe Jackson, Jr., and niece, Kim Boaz; Aunt, Myrtle Hawkins, and Uncle Albert Irby; Cousin Willard Hawkins, and numerous other relatives and close friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Callaway, Dr. Eugene T. Harper, and the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and Staff.
