ROGERS, Mr. Wilson - Age 61, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, May 29, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Min. Jane Rogers-Johnson officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Rogers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mr. Wilson “Sonny” Rogers was born December 5, 1947 in Evergreen, Alabama, the son of the late Wilson Moore and Cornelia Rogers. Wilson was a true Christian. He had a heart of compassion, love and caring for all. Wilson joined St. Paul United Methodist Church in Evergreen, Alabama at an early age and continued to attend until he was called to serve his country. He graduated from Conecuh County High School as well as the County Trade School with an Associate Degree in Electronics. Mr. Rogers served his country in the United States Army from 1969 until 1970, during the Vietnam War. After returning home in 1971, he moved to Flint, Michigan, where he was employed with General Motors for 30 years. Mr. Rogers loved his family very much. He enjoyed chatting, joking and helping them to survive. Mr. Rogers also liked going fishing, gardening and hanging with his friend Bob. He leaves to cherish his loving, kind and sweet memories: love of his life and mother of their son, Lillian Cheatom; son, Wilson Rogers III; step sons, Owen and LaRon Turner; grandchildren, Marsean Rogers and LaRiya Turner; 2 sisters, Minister Jane Rogers-Johnson and Jo Ann Rogers, both of Evergreen, AL; nieces, Belinda Mack, Jo Lene (Michael) Townsend, Delphine Rogers, Xaviera (Elax) Taylor, Aarin and Monica Townsend, Melissa Mack, Ashleigh Rogers, Raina Taylor, Jordyn Brown, all of Flint, Sheridan Mack of Denton, TX, Pleyndra (Greg) Elliott, Brittney Johnson, Haley and Ronnie Kelly of Evergreen, AL; nephews, Joseph Townsend, Michael and Brandon Martinez, all of Flint, Joshua Johnson and Levy Kelly, both of Evergreen, AL; sisters-in-law, Chauncy B. Rogers, Vivian Bates of Lima, OH, Thelma (Odester) Whitiker, Melinda Cheatom and Sheila Cheatom; brothers-in-law, Richard Cheatom, all of Flint and Bruce (Theresa) Cheatom of Antioch, TN; special friend, Bob Miner of Flint. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Moore and Cornelia Rogers; brother, Joseph “Joe” Rogers; aunt, Willie Mae Rogers; and uncles, George and James Rogers.
