Mrs. Willie Mae Wheat

WHEAT, Mrs. Willie Mae - Age 95, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie Street, with funeral service commencing at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Wheat will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Willie Mae Wheat was born in Pontotoc Mississippi, the daughter of Mary Robinson. She attended Pontotoc Mississippi Public School. Willie Mae retired from General Motors Parts and Services Division after 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #659. Her nieces and nephews referred to her as Aunt Sim. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church for 62 years, where she served on the Usher Board, Kitchen and Mission Ministries. She was a people person who was involved in many activities and bowled in several leagues around the city of Flint. After traveling to various cities across the country, bowling in consecutive WIBC tournaments she received a 25 years award from (WIBC) Women's International Bowling Congress. Willie Mae worked as a volunteer for several political campaigns. She loved her children and grandchildren, and spent her summer months in Idlewild Michigan with them. In her younger years, she enjoyed swimming, skating and horseback riding up north. In 2012, during Idlewild Centennial, Mrs. Willie Mae Wheat was honored for her dedication as an Idlewild resident. Mrs. Willie Mae Wheat leaves to cherish her memory: 2 granddaughters, Nicole (Kent) Buckner, Jr. of Grand Blanc, MI and Shaylonna Wheat; grandson, William Wheat; daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Wheat, both of Grand Blanc MI; 2 great-grandchildren, Kamille and Kaleb Buckner of Grand Blanc, MI; nieces, Lillian (Willie ) Johnson of Flint, Ann Spratlen of Southfield, MI and Deborah (Clary) Jackson of Chattanooga TN; great-nieces, L'tanya Spratlen of Southfield MI. Yolanda Jackson of Las Vegas, NV, Vallerie Jackson of Victorville, CA, Kyle Johnson of Southfield MI and Kenya McHenry of Plano TX; several great-great-nieces and one great-great-great-niece, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Wheat was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Wheat: son, William Calop Wheat; daughter, Violet Valicia Johnson; sister, Abigail Spratlen; 2 brothers, Gerald Robinson and Johnnie Robinson. The family would like to express specials thanks to Alice Rich, and Mr. and Mrs. Tapplin, Alvin and Andrew Gayden, Mary Buckner, Lucy Tipton, Jody Cox and family, Kenyatta Golson, Pastor Charles Roots, Canaan Baptist Church family, and our many friends.
