Mr. Willie Washington

WASHINGTON, Mr. Willie age 97, passed away, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Washington will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Willie Washington was born July 25, 1916 in Natchez, Mississippi, the son of Melkie and Rosie Washington. He was a resident of Flint, Michigan and a member of Austin Avenue Baptist Church. Willie served in the US Army during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in 1945. He Retired from GM after 30 years of service. Willie received the Key to the City by Mayor Don Williamson in 2006, who attended one of his many Birthday Celebrations. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching baseball and spending time with his family. Willie In his latter years, enjoyed just playing Solitaire on the computer. He was loved by many! If he was not being called Daddy, he was Uncle Will, whether by family or friends. Mr. Willie Washington leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mary Lee Washington; 4 daughters, Louise Weeks of Marks, MS, Donna Washington of Stone Mountain, GA, Saundra (Rico) Flynn of Flint and Regina (Leonard) Rowe of Johns Creek, GA; 2 sons, Casterdarrel Washington of Baltimore, MD and Broderick Washington of Flint; step-son, Marc Walton Jr. of South Korea; grandchildren, Craig Weeks of Alabama, Eric Weeks of Mississippi, Little Cass Washington of Maryland, Broderick Miller, Dynasty, Misty, Melanie, Jasmine, all of Flint, Alonna Saunders of Washington, Falen and Ciara Williams of Florida, Keesha Washington, Wynetta, Dominique, Destiny and J.R. Flynn, all of Flint, Diamond Rowe of Johns Creek, GA, Martea Walton of Flint, Alysha and Mark Walton Jr. of Illinois, Eric Ward of Tennessee, Ladrina and Andre Lewis, Chucky and Nicole Lillybridge, all of Illinois; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces, Dorothy Jones, Emily Edwards and Margaret Washington; 2 nephews, Melvin and Rodney Washington; several grand-nephews; cousin, Leroy Washington of Illinois; 4 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, William Holden, George and Lottie Grant, Ms. Brown and family, Kennyman Golden and Tina Summers; special daughters, Wanda Jones and Linda Clark. Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his 1st Wife, Mary Dee Washington; 3 daughters, Emily Morrison, Martha Adams, Ophelia Banister; 3 grandchildren; parents, Melkie and Rosie Washington; brother, Melkie Washington, Jr.; 3 nieces; and 5 nephews.
