Mr. Willie Joe "Gene" Ross

ROSS, Mr. Willie Joe "Gene"- Age 78, departed this life, Monday, July 1, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor James Hodo officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Ross will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrenc E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Willie Joe “Gene” Ross was born January 24, 1935 in Doddsville, Mississippi, the first of two sons, to the late Verstell and Ella Belle Ross. Willie accepted Christ at an early age. He completed his formal education at Delta Industrial Institute before relocating to Flint, Michigan. Willie retired from Chevrolet, “The Hole”, a division of General Motors after 23 years of service. He was a member of Eureka Lodge No.16. Willie enjoyed antique cars and watching old western movies. He was a faithful member of True Temple Community Church, where he served on the Trustee Board until his health began to fail. Mr. Willie J. Ross leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Verna (Dereke) Sharp of Flint and Jacqueline Shipp of Swartz Creek, MI; 6 grandchildren, Dereke Sharp Jr., Dedric Sharp, Misty (Dion) Jamerson, Crystal Sharp, Demetrius Sharp and Tomika Echols, all of Flint; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Maria Ross and Joyce (Arthanus) Hunter, both of Flint; 3 nephews, John Wesley Ross Jr., of Flint, Dewayne Wesley Ross of Toledo, OH and John Fitzgerald (Lisa) Ross of Romulus, MI; aunt, Bessie Jones of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Evie Ross; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friend, Flora Shipp. Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Verstell and Ella Belle Ross; brother, John Wesley Ross Sr.; niece, Sheila Ross and former wife, Patricia Randall. The family would like to express great gratitude to McLaren Regional Medical Center 6th floor ICU nurses and physicians, Dr. Paul Musson and office staff and a special thank you to son-in-law, Dereke Sharp, Senior Pastor Timothy R. Stokes and Pastor Tanya C. Stokes, Pastor James Hodo and the Family Worship Center Church International family.
