PETERSON, Mr. Willie James "Pete" - Age 81, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 in Adger, Alabama. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Peterson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday with family present to receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Obituary Mr. Willie James “Pete” Peterson was born August 6, 1937 in Kemper, Mississippi, the son of the late Tommie and Annie Peterson. He moved to Flint, Michigan to seek employment after graduating from Westfield High School, “Class of 1955” in Westfield, AL. Mr. Peterson temporarily resided with his uncle and aunt, the late Reverend & Mrs. J.C. Curry of Flint in 1956. He was employed at GM-Flint Manufacturing Fisher Guide Division from October of 1956 to January of 1987, retiring after 30 years of service. Willie was a member of UAW Local #659. Mr. Peterson was previously married to Betty J. Garvins and to that union, he fathered 3 lovely daughters, Autumn M. Peterson, the late Candia M. Payne and Tammy C. Gill, all of Flint. He was a loving, caring and devoted father and grandfather. Mr. Willie J. Peterson enjoyed sports, especially baseball, tennis and golf. As a young man, he was an avid baseball player, especially pitching with a fast right hand. He enjoyed old time movies, cooking, daily trips to Wal-Mart and going to the casinos. Willie loved returning to Flint for family gatherings. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Valley Creek, AL. Mr. Willie J. Peterson leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Autumn M. Peterson and Tammy C. Gill, both of Flint; step-daughter, Corey L. Brown (Darius) of Parkland, FL; longtime friend and companion, Ms. Vera King of Alabama; grandchildren, Takeisha Pugh, Darnell Payne, DeAngelo McEwen, Dewon Payne, all of Flint, Tayler Arnold of Grand Rapids, MI; step-granddaughter, Mya Brown of Parkland, FL; great-grandchildren, Jayden Durham and Trinity Tompkins; sister, Dorothy Sanders, all of Flint; brother, Henry Peterson of Hazel Park, MI; sister-in-law, Ann Peterson of Swartz Creek, MI; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends including special friend, Robert Brand of Bessemer, AL. Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his daughter, Candia Payne; granddaughter, Ashley Payne; parents, Tommie and Annie Peterson; brother, Joseph C. Peterson; aunts and uncles.
