HOLMES, Mrs. Willie Mae - age 87, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando, FL. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Holmes may be viewed during the family hour only. After which Mrs. Holmes will be taken to Washington Park Cemetery, 3402 34th St., Orlando, FL. 32805 (407) 966-3172. Mrs. Willie Mae Holmes was born April 15, 1927 in Dawson, Georgia the daughter of Willie James and Louise (Sea) Crawford. Willie Mae grew up in Dawson, Georgia and moved to Orlando, Florida, after which, she became a resident of Flint, Michigan, where she lived for an extended period of time. In 1993, she retired from AC Spark Plug. She was an active member of House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as Vice President and President of the Nurses Ministry. Willie Mae enjoyed music, cooking, making ceramics and going to the movies. She will be remembered for her warmth, illuminating smile and her keen sense of fashion and style. Mrs. Holmes was the matriarch of a large Crawford family. Mrs. Willie Mae Holmes leaves behind: husband, Herbert Holmes; beloved children, Callie Parker of Southfield, MI, Lorene Washington of Pasadena, CA, Jae Williams of Chicago, IL and Darlene Williams of Antioch, TN; 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Washington of Virginia Beach, VA and Brittney Jamie Williams of Chicago, IL; grand dog that she named, April; brothers, Willie Lee, James, Otis and Grover Crawford; sisters, Alberta Wilson, Lula Bell Houston and Marie Shaw; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlie Will, Roy and Jonnie B. Crawford; half sister, Estelle Cull and Eva Bell Heart. The family would like to express special thanks to extended family members, Ron and Alfretta Head, who have displayed love and care through the years, all the health care providers who went above and beyond assisting our mother with excellent care and love since 2011.
