Mr. William Eugene Sams Sr.

SAMS, Mr. William Sr. - age 78, passed away, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00, Pastor Stephen Murphy, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-4175 E. Bristol RD., Burton. MI Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Sams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and mayMr. William “Bill” Eugene Sams Sr. was born October 25, 1947 in Washington, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George and Elizabeth Sams. William was a 1966 graduated of Washington High School where he was known for his outstanding skills on the football team by becoming All State for Washington High School and later throughout the years, they were voted All Time Team for Washington High. Not only was he a great athlete, he was also skilled academically with continuing his education at Central Michigan University receiving his Bachelor Degree in Social Work, and completing his education at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where he received his Master Degree in Social Work. William was known for his love for the University of Michigan Football Team. He was a season ticket holder for years, and didn’t miss a game until he had some challenges with his health. Mr. Sams was employed with the Urban League of Flint and Job Central as a Job Developer. He was also the founder and proud owner of Sam’s Staffing Services. Prior to retirement he worked as a Therapist at Catholic Charites, Common Ground and Ennis Center for Children. Mr. Sams was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle for over 30 years. Mr. Sams had a passion for social work, helping others in need brought him great joy. Last year he started a program for the Flint City County Jail where the concentration was in Holistic Rehabilitation. He taught and mentored many inmates and afterwards when some were released, he continued to mentor them. In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed spending time with family and golfing up until he encountered some health issues. He also had a love for writing. Bill wrote and published three books and was currently in the process of rewriting all of them. The books: an autobiography titled “Buried Love”, a therapy training manual, referencing Holistic Rehabilitation, and a book on Job Development. Bill will be truly missed for his endless selflessness and being a true example of Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things though Christ which strengthens me.” because through it all no matter how he felt he always pushed through to obtain the goal at hand. Mr. William “Bill” Eugene Sams Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, William E. (LaTosha) Sams of Canal Winchester, OH and Daryl (Tina) Williams of Troy, OH; step-daughter, Minister Saleta Johnson of Hanover, MD; grandchildren, William E. Sams III (Brittany), Morgan Sams, Daryl Williams Jr., Bailey Williams, Keiran Williams, Rhyn Williams, Kaitlyn Williams, Cameron DeHart and Caleb DeHart; great-grandchildren, Storm and Raylin Sams; 4 brothers, Duane (Revelie) Sams of Washington, DC, Dr. Frederick (Judy) Sams of Pittsburgh, PA, Ronald Sams of Salisbury, MD and Paul (Patricia) Sams of Aurora, CO; 2 sisters, Ms. Florine Garrison of Los Angeles, CA and Ms. Alfair “Cheech” Simons of Bonney Lake, WA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Hubert Roberts, Rodney Massey, Tony Ennis and former wife & best friend, Marilyn Sams. Mr. Sams was preceded in death by his son, Damon Williams; parents, George and Elizabeth Sams; brothers, George Sams Jr., Mayfred Holley and Walter Sams; sisters, Neatha E. Sams and Eleanor J. James; sister-in-law, Susan Sams; and 2 brothers-in-law, Percy James and Andrew Garrison be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM.
