Mr. William L. Mays

MAYS, Mr. William L. - age 58, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave. with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Mays will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 1 p.m.- 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. William L. “Larry” Mays was born December 6, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, the oldest son of Ebernezer Mays and Herbert Hoey. Larry as he was called graduated from Flint Central High School. He was a lover of God, sports, good food and family. Larry enjoyed playing basketball as well as coaching basketball. He was known to many as “Big Mays.” He had the gift of gab and enjoyed singing off key whenever he had a chance. Larry had a passion for leading young men to Christ and witnessed about the goodness of the Lord wherever he was. One of his favorite sayings was, “Thank God for Jesus!” Mr. William L. “Larry” Mays leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Angela Mays of Flint; daughter, Tova (Samuel) Jones of Grand Rapids, MI; son, Brandon Briggs of Flint; sisters, Kehilis Mays of Memphis, TN, Angela Beck, Bernadette Mays (Brent Diggs, Sr., Denise Mays, Minnie Hoey, Shirley (Hamp) Muschatt, Valerie (L.C.) Lewis, Elaine (Lones), Gilbert and Annette (Berlone) Boozer all of Flint; brothers, Joe Nathan Mays, Herbert (Terri) Hoey, Gregory Hoey and Dwayne Hoey, all of Flint; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, special cousin Evelyn Tucker and other relatives and friends. Mr. Mays was preceded in death by; daughter, Lagina Tucker; mother Ebernezer; father, Herbert Hoey; grandparents, Fenner Brown and Buela Brown; sister, Delene Hamilton; brother Lavoye Mays; and uncle, Obie Mays. The Family would like to express special thanks to the staff of DaVita Dialysis in the Hallwood Plaza, Dr. Muhammad and Garden View Apartments.
