Mr. William "Bill" Isom

ISOM, Mr. William "Bill" - age 87, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Elder Fred Jones officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Isom will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Isom was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. Mr. William “Bill” Isom was born June 26, 1927 in Perry County, Kentucky, one of eight sons of Simon Sr. and Elizabeth (Owens) Isom. He was a resident of Flint. William better known as “Buddy Roll” went to Perry A. Cline Jr. High School in Pikeville, KY. He completed the 8th grade before embarking on his favorite hobby as an Auto Mechanic. William later joined the military where he served one tour in Germany and was later Honorably Discharged and returned back to Pikeville where he met and married the mother of his 7 children Matra Adams. After 21 years of marriage with Matra they divorced and he later met and married Gussie “Too Sweet” Isom. “Pop” spent his retirement enjoying his family and picking up a plate every Sunday from his daughter Patty. He also enjoyed traveling to spend time with his eldest son, William and grandchildren in Pikeville, KY. Mr. William “Bill” Isom leave to cherish his memory: 5 daughters, Annette (Virgil) Honaker of Goodyear, AZ, Charline Brown of Atlanta, GA, Rita Ann Wren of Sweetwater, FL, Lurline and Patricia Isom, both of Flint; 3 sons, William (Helen) Isom of Pikeville, KY, Terry Isom and Jerry (Denise) Isom, all of Flint; 19 grandchildren including special grandchildren Jerry Jr. and Stephenie Isom; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends. Mr. Isom was preceded in death by wife, Gussie “Too Sweet” Isom; former wife, Matra Isom (mother of his children); parents, Simon Sr. and Elizabeth (Owens) Isom; 7 brothers, Benjamin, James “Ed” Simon Jr., Elmer, Thomas Allen, Raymond and Arnold Isom. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Brian Bhaghat, the staff at McLaren-Flint Medical Center, Heart to Heart Medical Staff and Loving Hands. The family would like to send another special thank you to caregiver and daughter, Patricia Isom and Yolanda Lucas who also was his caregiver and a dear friend.
