Mr. William Dennis "Double D" Durrett

DURRETT, Mr. William Dennis "Double D" - Age 71, passed away Monday, August 31, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center. Mr. Durrett will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Friday, September 11, 2020 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. William Dennis Durrett “Double D” was born May 18, 1949 in Lebanon, Kentucky, the son of William Lee and Anna Elizabeth (Sickles) Durrett. Dennis was raised up in the Catholic Church where he served as an Alter Boy at Christ the King Catholic Church under Father Norman Dukette. He then moved to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Dennis graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1967.” He was employed at General Motors Corporation where he retired October 1, 1998. Dennis played basketball, quarterback football, ran track and was a School Choir Member where he sung Tenor. He loved to sing and listen to his favorite group, “The Temptations”. Dennis loved to dress, shine his shoes, draw and keep his lawn manicured. William Dennis Durrett “Double D” leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 49 years whom he married on August 21, 1971, Gwendolyn Jean Durrett of Flint; 2 daughters, Katrina Monique (Jimmie) Campbell of Lansing, MI and Keisha Denise (Chris) Gates of Flint; god-daughter, Kiva McCrady; grandchildren, Brianna Nicole Campbell of Southfield, MI, Amber Deshaun Campbell, Angel Monei Campbell, both of Lansing, MI, Christopher James Gates Jr. and Jaylen Mikhail Gates, both of Flint; 3 sisters, Eva White of Flushing, MI, Monica Byrd of Houston, TX and Florence (Gary) Nichols of Houston, TX; 3 brothers, Lawrence (Janet) Durrett of Flushing, MI, Robert Durrett and Donald (Shirley) Durrett, all of Flint; 10 nieces, Necol (Derrice) Alexander, Kiva (Terry) McCrady, both of Canal Winchester, OH, Audrica (Michael) Beene, Janetta and LaQueta Durrett, Leigh Langston, all of Flint, Nawara Blue of Houston, TX, Alisha (Michael) Love of Southfield, MI, Onja Brunswick of Houston, TX and Santina Edelen of Lebanon, KY; 5 nephews, Lawrence Durrett Jr., Eugene McBride, Taharqa (Litiesha) Blue, Diarra (Jessica) Blue and Gary Nichols II, all of Houston, TX; 6 aunts, Emma Edelen of Lebanon, KY, Jean Grady, Justine (Barry) Allen, Clementine (Joe) Smalley, Nancy Riley, all of Lebanon, KY and Doris Sickles of Louisville, KY; uncle, Charles Tracy (June) Sickles; a host of cousins including the Porter and Clements families; sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae (Raymond) Johnson of Flint, Mae Vern (Benny) Spence of Marietta, GA and Barbara Gray of White Hall, AR; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Kevin (Shirley) Johnson of Ozan, AR, Leon (Willie Mae) Miller, loyal & devoted lifelong friend/brother, Jake (Bernice) Kendall of Flint. William was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Anna Elizabeth Durrett; grandparents, Eva Parrott, Mack Durrett, Ada Sickles, Lee Edward Sickles; mother and father-in-law, A.J. and Hazel Gray; sisters-in-law, Jana Durrett, Hazel L. Johnson and Zeophis Campbell; brothers-in-law, Minister Stephen Byrd, Levi White, A.D. Gray and Taharqa Blue; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
