ADAMS, Mr. William "Shelly" - Age 69, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Ernest J. Garrison officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Thursday. Mr. Adams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mr. William “Shelly” Adams was born April 29, 1940 in Vance, Mississippi, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmitt Adams. “Shelly” confessed and accepted Christ as his Savior, August 8, 2004 and joined Austin Avenue Baptist Church. He later transferred his membership to Vernon Chapel AME Church, where he remained until his homegoing on December 2, 2009. . “Shelly” served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper and following his stint in the Armed Services he was employed by General Motors as a Skilled Tradesman at Buick City. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend and much more. “Shelly” enjoyed working, fishing, and playing cards. He also had a passion for family gatherings and exchanging views about “Old Times”. “Shelly” liked to shop and always wore elegant attire. He leaves to cherish his sweet memories: wife, Sharon (Hardy) Adams; 4 daughters, Erika Stocker, Shellie Adams, Lu-Cretia Britt, all of Flint and Angela Boyes of New Orleans, LA; 3 sons, Anthony Adams of Flint, William Adams II of New Orleans, LA and Kris Davis of Hazlehurst, MS; 5 step children, Rev. Virgil, Lisa and Rodney Stocker, Sharon and Brandon Woodward; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Clyde Adams of Hazlehurst, MS and Charles Brown of Kalamazoo, MI; 4 sisters, Emily Edwards and Marguerite Washington, both of Flint, Linda Turnbull of Champaign, IL and Joann Brown of Dallas, TX; a host of nieces including great niece, Conleigh “Black Baby” Johnson, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Roy Reed, Al and Dee. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Martha Adams; sisters, Maggie Anderson, Martha Hunt, Florence Moran and Frances Adams; brothers, Albert, Clarence and Claud Adams; aunts and uncles, Melchia and Bernice Washington, A.B. and Ophelia Bannister, Shelby an Emma Morris and Mary Washington; and brother-in-law, Arvis “Buck” Washington. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Ernest J. Garrison and the Vernon Chapel AME Church family, Rev. Dr. Tara Sutton and the Bethel United Methodist Church family, Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart and the House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family, Hurley Medical Center Emergency Department and Cardiac Care Unit, Fostrian Heartland Health Care Center, Dr. Sattar, Dr. Osama and all who helped in any manner.
