Wesola Atkinson

ATKINSON, Mrs. Wesola - Age 92, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Atkinson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Wesola (Parker) Atkinson was born February 8, 1918 in Jackson, Alabama, the daughter of Connie Parker and Arneacie Todd. She was a longtime member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Senior Usher Board, Floral Club and the Kitchen Committee. Mrs. Atkinson loved the Lord and served Him until she was called home. She enjoyed shopping, gardening and spending quality time with her grandchildren and church family. Mrs. Wesola (Parker) Atkinson leaves to cherish her sweet memories: husband, Mitchell Atkinson of Flint; 3 daughters, Rothona Simon of Detroit, MI, Arneacie Hatchett and Tinnie Mae (Jimmy) Clark, all of Hamburg, AR; 2 sons, Carnell Curenton of Flint and Luther (Alice) Currington of Decatur, GA; 3 stepchildren, Vaneva Ewell, Mitchell (Kathy) Atkinson, Jr. and Larry Atkinson of Livonia, MI; sister, Tinnie Mae Smith of Flint. Lastly, “The Grand’s” in which she so affectionately called them, 22 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 32 great great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mrs. Ola Matthews and Mrs. Loretta Sweeney. Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her son, Willie Curenton; granddaughter, Shiree Johnson; mother, Arneacie Jones; father, Connie Parker; sister, Sarah Frye; brothers, Curtis and Monroe Parker; daughter-in-law, Pam Curenton and son-in-law, Richard Hatchett. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr. and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church family, Dr. Pandarangi and the Baker Street family.
