Mr. Wesley Pelham Stone

STONE, Mr. Wesley Pelham - Age 70, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 Pastor Brian Grundy, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Stone will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Deacon Wesley Pelham Stone was born October 13, 1952 in Flint, Michigan, the son of John Thomas Stone and Mary Elizabeth (Hines) Stone. Wesley attended public school in the Flint Community School District and was a graduate of Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1972.” After graduation, he joined the land service branch of the Armed Forces, also known as the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged in1974. Upon returning home in 1974, Wesley met a beautiful young woman, Barbara Jean Williams. The two dated for some time and on January 29, 1977, they became husband and wife. Wesley gained employment at Dupont Flint Plant in 1976. The company was later sold and renamed Axalta Coating Systems. Wesley retired from the company after 37 years of service. One day Wesley reunited with a childhood friend who was also a pastor, the friend invited him to attend Bible Study at his church. Wesley was active in attending Bible Study and on July 19, 1987, Wesley believed the Word and confessed Jesus as Lord, and was later baptized on August 5, 1987. He displayed his faith while serving in many areas of the church including Finance Department, Van Ministry, landscaping and singing in the Choir, and was ordained as a Deacon of May 29, 1984. Wesley enjoyed collecting items such as stamps, coins, tools, books and assembling Jigsaw Puzzles (he would proudly display his puzzles on social media). After retirement, Wesley loved traveling with his wife to see their family that he deeply cherished. Deacon Wesley Pelham Stone leaves in God’s care: loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Jean Stone; daughter, Keonnie (Jason) Rogers, all of Flint; sons, Rahsaan (Charlene) Stone of Maryland and Carlos (Shanika) Hodo of Georgia; grandchildren, Jada Rogers of Flint, Jamonet Rogers of Arizona, Jason “Hootie” Rogers II, Amari Hodo, both of Flint, Carlos Hodo II of Georgia, Reagan Stone of Maryland and Amina Hodo of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Jael Rogers and Koah Carter; sisters, Johnnie Lacy and April Stone; brother, Andrew Stone, all of Flint; aunt, Lauretta Hines of Illinois; sisters-in-law, Freddie Atkins of Detroit, MI, Jill Brown of Arizona and Shirley Lipsey of Georgia; brother-in-law, Paul Williams of Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends including Michael, LaGreta, Bob & Karen. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Stone; sister, Marcellus Wilson; brother, Robert Stone; and best friend, Herman Ellison. The family would like to express special thanks to Absolute Home Health & Hospice staff, Johnnie Lacy, April Stone, Joseph “Lil Joe” Williams Jr., Carlos Hodo, Pastor Brian Grundy, Pastor Frederick L. Flowers Sr. & Promise Tabernacle Baptist Church family.
