Dr. Walter Martin Lucas III

LUCAS, Dr. Walter Martin, III - Age 63, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, February 28, 2020 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour Ave., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha services will be held at 10:30 AM under Epsilon Upsilon Lambda Chapter with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Father Phil Schmitter, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Dr. Lucas will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. Dr. Walter Martin Lucas III was born August 9, 1956 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Walter Martin Jr. and Maxine Mae Lucas. Walter was raised in Flint and attended St. Matthews Catholic School. He graduated from Powers Catholic High School. Walter went on to continue his education at the University of Michigan-Flint, while working for St. Joseph Hospital. He excelled in school. Walter sought the Fraternal Brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor Dental School. He began his career in dentistry and dedicated his time to the Urban League of Flint, NAACP, and later married his wife of 20 years, Dr. Pamela Moore-Harris. Together they started a journey and out of that union, two exceptional sons, Walter IV and William Lucas III. While in private practice, Walter taught Dental Hygiene at Mott Community College and served as the Genesee County Jail Dentist. He retired from Dentistry after 28 years in practice. Walter was a dedicated husband, father and friend to many. He loved to cook, read, travel and spend time with his family and those close to him. Dr. Walter Martin Lucas III leaves to cherish his memory: loving friend, Dr. Pamela Moore-Harris of New Bern, NC; sons, Walter Martin Lucas IV of Greensboro, NC and William Moore-Lucas III of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, De’Shia Lucas and Eli Lucas, both of Greensboro, NC; brother, George Bancroft of Holt, MI; niece, Dr. Pamela Pearson PhD of Surprise, AZ; nephew, Gary (Stacey) Pearson of Sterling Heights, MI, great-nieces, Aasiyah Meeks of Flushing Mi, Hannah and Mariah Pearson of Sterling Heights, MI; great-nephew, Ishaaq Meeks of Davidson, MI; great-great-niece, Aanirah Meeks of Flushing, MI; god-mother, Connie Dobson of Flint, MI; brother-in-law, Willard Deshazor, Davenport, FL ;and god-daughters, Terria Kurtz of Grand Blanc, MI and Avonne Bogan of Arlington, TX; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Dr. Denise Polk DDS, Keith Tipper, Terria Kurtz, Karen Johnson Dr. Larry Young, Anthony Alexander Sr. and David Austin. Dr. Lucas was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Maxine Lucas, Grandmother Mable Richards, brothers Gary Bancroft, Alex, Martin and Louis Lucas, sister Patricia Pearson-Deshazor, father and mother in-law Dr. William H.S Moore and Deloris S. Moore, brother in-law Peter Moore and Godfather Berlin Dobson.
