SAINES, Mr. W. Stanley Jr. - Age 68, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Monday, April 15, 2019 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Andre L. Williams Sr., officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Monday. Mr. Saines will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday with the family present from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM to receive friends. William Stanley Saines Jr., affectionally known as “Junior” departed this earth and returned home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at McLaren Hospital at the age of 68. Stanley was born August 24, 1950 in Bolivar, TN. He was the fourth child of nine born to William & Alice Saines. Stanley moved to Flint in 1958 with his family and was educated in Beecher School District and graduated in 1968 from Northwestern High School. Stanley accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. R.R. Gordon. He enjoyed research and studying the Bible. This led to the foundation for him to become enriched with the Word of God and later become a Deacon at Greater Galilee M.B. Church. Stanley served as a Sunday School teacher and worked with the Youth Department. He enjoyed serving communion to the sick and shut-in, especially his parents. In the fall of 1968 Stanley began taking classes at Mott Community College, it was during this time he pledged and became a member of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity. Stanley also began working at Hurley Medical Center where he became interested in the field of Nursing; an interest that would culminate later in life. Stanley’s work at Hurley was interrupted when he enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1969 and served his country completing a tour in the Vietnam War. Stanley was discharged from the Marine Corps in May 1972. Stories of his time in the “Congo” would always be heard as he would share his war stories with his nieces & nephews. Upon returning home, he returned to Hurley and would continue working there for many years. Stanley’s interest for nursing expanded when he began working at Meharry Medical Center in Nashville, TN while attending school there. Over the years, Stanley also worked at different nursing homes around the city. Stanley placed strong emphasis on education, and he wanted all his family to have the same appreciation he did for knowledge. He encouraged his loved ones to continue their education, beyond high school. Stanley attended Tennessee State University, Baker College & later transferred to Eastern Michigan University all the while working as a L.P.N and in the winter of 2001, Stanley earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University. Stanley didn’t just stop with encouraging his family to learn, he wanted to expand it to all young people and after graduating he started working as a substitute teacher for Flint Community Schools. Stanley spent many summers months camping and he also enjoyed taking trips to casinos all over the USA and Canada. During the last year of Stanley’s life, he encountered many health issues that prevented him from traveling; it was during this time that he returned to his old-love of watching the History, Sci-fi & Western channels and movies. Stanley leaves to cherish his memory; two daughters, LaTonya (Joeray) Allen of Flint & Sharaunda (Gary) Batteaste of Charlotte, NC; seven grand children, Latika, Antonyo, Trey, Gary Jr., Justin, Nandi & Nia; five great-grandchildren, LaTia, Antonyo Jr., Amari, Aubrey & August; three brothers, William E. (Crystal) Saines of Burton, Terry (Patience) Saines of Decatur, GA, Dewayne Saines of New Orleans, LA; two sisters, Sandra (Charles) Boseman, Patricia Saines; brother-in-law, Howard Walker; three aunts, Cinda (Leon) Anderson, Gloria Parram & Patricia Franklin all of Flint & a host of other beloved family members and friends, including his companion, Willie Keith and her family: Chante Collins, Rosalyn Winston, Adolph & Jeffrey Keith, Tyrone, Zalik & Courtney. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, William & Alice Saines; sister, Annie Walker; brothers, Thomas & Michael Saines; nephews, Ken Walker & Terrence Saines and niece, Sabrina Williams. The family would like to extend special thanks to Pastor Andre Williams & the Greater Galilee Baptist Church family, the staff of Helping Hands, and to all of you who helped with Stanley during his time of illness.
