HENDERSON, Mrs. Vonicile S. - age 75, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Henderson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Vonicile Henderson “Granny Von” age 75, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 19, 2014 at her residence. Vonicile was born August 10, 1938, in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Willie and Mary Granberry. She married Willie Henderson in 1963 and following her husband’s United States Army retirement, they moved to Flint, Michigan where she has remained for 49 years. To this union they raised 2 sons, Michael Henderson and Calvin Meredith. Vonicile was employed at Fisher Body for several years then onto Buick City, a division of General Motors, where she retired in 1993. In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, music and socializing with friends and family. In her later years some of her many enjoyments came from listening to her Sunday Morning Gospels, socializing, and her great-granddaughters, Ta’Leah and Aniya; whether they were painting her nails crazy colors, having a sleep over or a living room dance party, as long as they had smiles on their faces she was happy. Although “Granny Von” was known for her sweet and caring nature, if you were ever out of line she had no problem letting you know. “Granny Von” was also known for her sense of humor, whether it was one of her funny sayings such as “every dog has their day and sometimes two’ it was impossible for you leave her home without a good laugh or two. Her door was always open to any and everybody, and her love was never ending. Mrs. Vonicile Henderson “Granny Von” leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Michael Henderson and Calvin Meredith, both of Flint; grandchildren, Wendell (Amanda) Counts, Michelle Counts, Christopher Hampton and Makia Henderson; special great-granddaughters, Aniya and Ta’Leah Counts; brother, Wallace (Bertha) Granberry of Idlewild, MI; a host of nieces including special niece, Melinda Lynn Henderson; a host of nephews including special nephew, James Granberry, Jr.; sister-in-law, Katherine Harvey; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Barbara Kemp, Felt Townsend, Michael Taylor and Erma Tyson. Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Henderson; daughter, Von Henderson; parents, Willie and Mary Granberry; brothers, Willie and James Granberry. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to her grandson, Wendell Counts as caregiver of 14 years, her sons, Michael Henderson and Calvin Meredith, Loving Hands, Heritage Manor and Grace Hospice.
