SWEEZER, Mrs. Virginia Lee (Sheffey) - Age 77, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral service 2:00PM Saturday, October 22, 2005 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Min. H.M Hart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 2PM Saturday. Mrs. Sweezer will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 4-8PM Friday. Mrs. Virginia Lee (Sheffey) Sweezer was born January 13, 1928 in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sigsbee and Jencie (Webb) Sheffey. After graduating from high school, Virginia attended Dillard University in New Orleans, LA, majoring in Social Science. She relocated to Los Angeles, CA where she met and married William Penn Sweezer, Sr. and to this union seven children were born. In 1955 they moved to Michigan. Virginia worked briefly for the United States Postal Service before becoming a very successful real estate broker. She was very active with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Mrs. Sweezer was a devoted mother who instilled in her children the importance of education, independence and concern for others. She will be greatly missed by those who love her. Mrs. Sweezer was very proud that all her children and grandchildren have had the opportunity to attend college to pursue their profession. Mrs. Sweezer leaves to cherish her memory: 7 children, Michael of Flint, MI, Jencie (Phillip) Heard of Atlanta, GA, Jesse, Chief Petty Officer, USN Retired (Annabelle) Sweezer of Tracy, CA, Diana (Charles) Harris of Little Rock, AR, Larry Sweezer of Kent, WA, Dr. William (Arlene) Sweezer, Jr., of Lafayette, CA, Cheryl McGee, RN of Flint, MI; brother, Donald (Ruby) Sheffey and their children; 16 grandchildren, Leslie and Linzile, Chaz, Dr. Tonya Sims, Antoine, Candace, Jasmin, Sonya, Lance, William III, Dante, Stacy, Justin, Jason, Crissa, Shaun; 11 great grandkids, Nalla, Azahia, Keshawn, D.J., Andre, De'Genai, Keera, Amari, India, Josiah and Makaela; niece, Pam Massey; nephews, Andre Salter, Victor Sheffey, David Sheffey and cousin, Warren Greene. Mrs. Virginia Lee (Sheffey) Sweezer was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Sweezer, Sr.; parents, Sigsbee and Jencie Sheffey; sister, Vera Salters; and 2 brothers, Johnny, and Sigsbee Jr. Sheffey, and uncle, Walter Dee Courtney.
