CARROLL, Deaoness Virginia R. - Age 88, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Mission Point of Holly, Michigan. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00, AM, Pastor Sharinese Jackson, officiating, Pastor Stanley Sims, Eulogist. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Deaconess Carroll will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd and may be viewed from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday. Deaconess Virginia R. Carroll was born February 2, 1929 in Halifax County, North Carolina, the daughter of William Ervin Hawkins and Olivanzer Harper Hawkins. Virginia attended Eastman High School. She married Napoleon Carroll on April 4, 1948. From this union they had 5 beautiful children, Kenneth, Julius, Phyllis, Peggy and Curtis. Virginia loved her family and she consistently supported her children through their extra-curricular sports and events. She was a renowned seamstress and worked professionally for many years. The family joined Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and has held membership there for 62 years. Virginia was active in the Turner Missionary Society, The Lay Organization, Sunday School, Trustee Board and Class Leader. On August 24, 2008 she was consecrated as a Deaconess in the AME Church. In March of 2007 she was honored at the Legends of Women in Flint. Virginia had the uncanny ability to bring joy to everyone she met. Deaconess Virginia Carroll leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Phyllis Carroll and Peggy Carroll Tipton; 2 sons, Julius (Lyria) Carroll and Dr. Curtis (Tonya) Carroll; daughter-in-law, Ramona Carroll; grandchildren, Kenneth Carroll Jr., Yolanda Carroll, Gabriel Carroll, Mia (Universal) Hunt, Katina, Hui and Amanda Tipton, Dr. Brittany and Brent Carroll; great-grandchildren, Universal Hunt, Stacia Tipton, Aiden Tipton, Harmony Turner, Lyria Hunt and Kendall Carroll; sisters, Vera Verdene Hawkins, and Margaret Elaine Hawkins (Milton) Wade of Chesterfield, MO; sisters-in-law, Vanell Williams Hawkins, Jacqueline Mickens, Doris Carroll and Elaine Carroll; brother-in-law, Willie Mack Carroll; and a host of other relatives and friends. Deaconess Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, Napoleon Carroll; son Kenneth Carroll; parents, William and Olivanzer Hawkins; and special nephew, Carlos Anthony Johnson.
