Mr. Virgil Spears Jr.

SPEARS, Mr. Virgil, Jr., - Age 93, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center. Mr. Spears will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM, Friday, July 3, 2020. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Very quietly and peacefully on June 26, 2020 Mr. Virgil Spears Jr. transitioned from this earthly home to his heavenly home with God. Virgil Spears was born to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil and Mary Spears Sr. on June 15 1927 at Hurley Hospital in Flint MI and attended Vassar and Mt. Morris public schools. Virgil enlisted in the U.S. Army where he bravely served as a Specialist before being honorably discharged. Mr. Spears had a strong work ethic. Shortly after leaving the military and upon his return he became gainfully employed at Fisher Body #2 and retired after 35 years at Flint Truck and Bus in Flint. Mr. Virgil Spears was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a true sports fan and attended most, if not all of Flint’s High School football and basketball games in support of his family and friends. He was also once featured in the Flint Journal as one of Flint’s most loyal sports fans. Rain or shine he would be there to cheer on his favorite teams. His favorite college teams were Michigan and Michigan State. He would sit in front of the TV for hours on end watching college and professional sporting event with his grandson Virgil, and his nephews Lewis and Robbie. Virgil’s favorite pastime was spending quality time with his family. He loved to fellowship, laugh, talk, and eat. His goal was to constantly stay in contact with his nieces and nephews to make sure they were fine, but mostly just to hear their voices. Mr. Spears was a lover of music of all kinds from , polka to country, blues and even Sunday morning gospel frequently listening to Sam “Sweet Sam, the Candy Man” Williams on WDZZ radio. Mr. Virgil Spears Jr. will be sorely missed. His broad smile and laughter will forever be cherished. In parting this life he leaves to cherish his loving memories two daughters Cheryl (James) Crawford, and Virgilen (Thaddous) Williams. Daughter-in-Law Cherry L. Broadway. Eight grandchildren, Sha Lonna “Shay” Davis, Donald (Jamilia) Broadway, Virgil Broadway, Dionyshia (Dihetra) Broadway, Thaddous (Deonna) Williams, Breanna Williams, Tavonte’ Williams, and Taylor Williams. Twelve great grandchildren. Eight great great grandchildren. Two Sisters-in-Law, Faye Spears, and Barbara (Herley) Bortters. Many nieces and nephews including Theresa (Alvern) Lock, Sharon Poindexter, Brenda Green, Pam Koutouzos, Drusilla Stephens, Lil Shirley, Yvonne, LaQwanda Spears, LaShawanda Spears, Carol Turnipseed, Louis spears, Louis Stephens, and Robbie Duckett. Extended family, Carrena Naylor, Pamela (Craig) Crane, Anthony Naylor, Sharon (Anthony) Lewis, Dedrico (Audra) Naylor, Zarron (JoAnn) Naylor, and Robert Roland. Mr. Spears was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Martha Vernice Spears, son Donald, two brothers John and Harvey, six sisters, Marqueritte, Dorothy, Kathrine, Mary Ann, and Shirley. Parents Virgil and May Spears Sr. and a host of other family and friends.
