Mr. Virgil Honaker

HONAKER, Mr. Virgil - Age 73, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Dave Belton officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Honaker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday. Mr. Virgil Honaker was born November 27, 1945 in Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of Varney Sr. and Elizabeth Honaker. He was one of thirteen children. Virgil joined Faith & Love Ministry under the leadership of Minister Dave and Evangelist Eloise Belton. He was employed at Grand Blanc Metal Center, a division of General Motors Corporation for 40 years, where he retired in 2008 as a Fork Truck Driver. Virgil was a member of UAW Local #1292. He was an avid bowler, Virgil also helped young people out that wanted to learn to bowl. He could sing and play the Guitar. Virgil loved Gospel music. He was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Annette Isom on March 22, 1968 and to this union seven children were born, three girls and four boys. Virgil was a wonderful husband and friend. He was a quiet person sometimes, but when he spoke he spoke. Virgil loved to take his children on trips so they could see different surroundings. He was a wonderful man and the love of my life for 51 years. “Thank You Jesus.” Virgil was a great football and basketball player at Pikeville High School. Mr. Virgil Honaker leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 51 years, Annette Honaker of Flint; daughter, LaJuana Jones of Mesa, AZ; 4 sons, Virgil Honaker II of Troy, MI, Antoan (Arlena) Honaker of Swartz Creek, MI, Anton (Lalinda) Honaker and Juwan Honaker; grandchildren, Alayna Honaker, Annisa Honaker, Ayana Honaker, Aryn and Antoan Honaker Jr., all of Swartz Creek, MI, Elijah Honaker, of Goodyear, AZ, Devorrian Jones, Ketorah Jones and Elise Jones, all of Mesa, AZ; 6 sisters, Fannie Pennington, Helen Honaker, Loretta Alshéyab, Linda Bradly, Geraldine Ward, all of Cincinnati, OH and Betty (Mitch) Haven of Detroit, MI; brother, Varney (Berda) Honaker of Hartford, CT; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; 3 sisters-in-law, Charlene Brown, Lurlene Isom and Patty Isom; 3 brothers-in-law, Jerry (Deneice) Isom, Terry Isom, all of Flint and William (Helen) Isom of Pikeville, KY; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, True Vine Gospel Singers, Pastor & Elect Lady Robinson, Elaine Boyce, the Harvey and Perteet families, Gloria and Patrick Tyus, and a host of extended family. Mr. Honaker was preceded in death by his 2 daughters, LaDrienne and LaShawn Honaker; parents, Varney Sr. and Elizabeth Honaker; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint, Genesys Ascension Hospital, Fenton Healthcare Facility, all that called, brought food, gave us encouraging words and prayed for us.
