Mr. Vernett Carmen Jr.

CARMEN, JR., Mr. Vernett - Age 57, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Lewis Knox officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friend and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Carmen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Vernett Carmen, Jr. was born January 4, 1958 in Prescott, Arkansas, the son of Vernett and Arcie Dell Carmen, Sr. He was their youngest blessed child. Vernett left Arkansas during his childhood and became a resident of Flint, Michigan. He accepted God’s love at an early age while attending Church Of God In Christ services. Vernett attended public school in the Beecher District. He enjoyed playing his guitar and especially at church. Vernett spent a lot of time in deep thought and was a man of few words. Those deep thoughts often times ended up on paper as poetry. He was known by his friends and family as “Buddy” or “Buddy Boy.” An attribute that was admired when speaking with “Buddy” was he would quickly let a person know, “I aint got nothing to do with that, I don’t get in other peoples business.” Vernett was a private person and mostly stayed to himself. He enjoyed a good laugh and wood carving. He didn’t discriminate when it came down to his collection of friends and associates. They came from all walks of life. Vernett was a kind and loving brother and son. Mr. Vernett Carmen, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Arcie D. Wheeler; 2 sisters, Loretta A. Carmen and Verdell Carmen (Donald Wall): nieces and nephews, Antrell (Ashley) Carmen, Alim Carmen (Brittany Kerutis), George A . Smith (Erisha), Sharee S. Webb and William Hobson; a host great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins and Catherine Miller. Mr. Carmen was preceded in death his father, Vernett Carmen in 1995; step-father, Willie Wheeler in 2012.
