BURKS, Mrs. Verna - Age 86, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at her residence. Family hour 10:30AM Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1811 Seymour St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Father George Puthenpeedika, celebrant. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Wednesday. Mrs. Burks will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Tuesday. Mrs. Verna Burks was born December 22, 1920 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the daughter of Howard Lee and Leola Combs. Verna was a long time member of Christ The King Catholic Parish in Flint, MI. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1940. Verna retired from AC Spark Plugs in 1981 and was a member of UAW Local #651. She loved interior decorating, shopping with her daughters, favorite pass time were reading, especially the Bible and working on crossword puzzles. She got great enjoyment spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Verna Burks leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Dr. Beverly (Samuel) Jones and Peggy Blackwell; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Mallory of Ann Arbor, Darin Campbell of Nashville, TN, Tracie (Gregory) Johnson of Chicago, IL, Lisa Blackwell, Gregory Blackwell (Fiance? Barbara Atkins) all of Flint; great-grandchildren, Janay, Jasmine, Justine, Jackquline and Jessica Blackwell; cousins-in-law, Norman and Margaret Miller; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Bill and Mary Williams, Lee and Ruby Brown, Helena Gurley, Dorothy Simbler, special niece, Joyce (Curtis) Crump-Burks. Mrs. Burks was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Burks of 58 years; daughter, Nancy Burks; parents, Howard Lee and Leola Combs; grandmother, Mary Wilson; aunt, Eunice Wilson.
