PARKER, Mrs. Verlene Levonne - Age 66, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, October 6, 2017 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle Church, 913 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Min. Jesse McIntosh officiating, Rev. Dr. Herbert L. Miller Host Pastor. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. There will be no public viewing. Mrs. Verlene Levonne Young- Parker was born December 14, 1950 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Ira and Helen Young. “Von” as she was affectionately called was the second daughter of six children born to this union. She confessed a hope in Christ and united with the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member until her marriage in 1972 where she relocated to Flint, Michigan with her husband, Allen Parker, Jr., to this union was born two sons, Tyrone Parker of Dallas, Texas and Jerome Parker of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. “Von” was educated in Pine Bluff, Arkansas attending 34th Avenue Elementary, Southeast Jr. and Sr. High and the University of Arkansas A&M College at Pine Bluff, AR. Her undergraduate degree was received from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR, where she was certified as a RN in 1973. “Von” worked as a registered nurse at Hurley Medical Center in Flint until 1990. She seriously took the command to “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God” (Matt 6:33) and she sought after the Lord with passion, until the time of her transition. Those closest to “Von” will remember her love for the “Old Rugged Cross” and her ardent desire that we seriously take time to “Know God”. She exuded much joy and inner peace and contentment as those years were truly Divinely inspired. “Von” is survived by: her husband, Allen Parker, Jr. of Flint; sons, Tyrone Parker and Jerome (Levonia) Parker; grand-daughter, Kennedy Evon; brothers, Ira (Gene) Young, Jr. of Hot Spring Village, Ark. and Kendall Byron Young of San Antonio, Texas; Attorney Sandra (Herbert) Harris of Pine Bluff, AR ; Dr. Sadie Hughes (Larry) Cincinnati, OH; a lifelong friend, Shirley Wade Cherry (Fuller) of Pine Bluff, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by: her parents, Ira and Helen Young of Pine Bluff, AR; father and mother in law, Allen (Esserqueener) Parker Sr. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family asks that you, please make donations to the Metropolitan Food and Clothing Pantry
