Mrs. Vera Mae Jones

JONES, Mrs. Vera Mae - Age 92, received her Angel Wings, Sunday, April 9, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with homegoing service commencing at 1:00 PM Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Entombment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM to receive friends. Mother Vera Mae Jones, age 92, was born June 13, 1924 in Helena, Arkansas, the daughter of McGee and Francis Hollins. She grew up in Arkansas and later married her devoted husband of 55 years, Johnnie Jones to this union 4 children were born. Mother was a dedicated wife and homemaker. Recently celebrating five generations with family and friends. Mother Jones accepted Christ as a young child. She affectionately spoke of her grandparents loving and teaching her about God. Mother’s favorite scripture was “Psalms 23.” We often heard her reciting it. Her favorite song, “Precious Lord”, she sung so beautifully. Mother was known as a encourager and mentor always sharing words of wisdom and life’s lessons. Adopting numerous god-children whom she loved as her own. She loved all her generations of children (her babies) she affectionately called us all. Mother loved and embraced everyone. She labored many years for the Lord, serving faithfully on the Mothers Board, Kitchen Committee and decades as President of the Usher Board. Known affectionately for her delicious “Sweet Potato Pies”, infectious smile and personality. Mother Vera Mae Jones leaves to cherish her sweet memories: daughters, Linda (Reginald) White and Janice Smith (Pursey) Polite; son, Richard Sr. (Martha) Tate Sr.; grandchildren, Richard Jr., Ronnie (Monica), DonQua, Jessie (Kenya), Lon, Tanika, Raymond, Raymonica, Jas’myn, Madeline, Brandon, Alex, Marcus, Telmesha, Lavera, Nicole, DeWonna and Mickey; great-grandchildren, Rasheed (Quorvardis), Matt, Marcel, Tecia, Shartecia, Kiara, Shakira, Ronnie J., Tori, Melanie, Elona, Essiana, Nian, Lonisha, Kamya, Messiah, Adrianna, Jessica, D’Ron, Dequandric, Ny’ara, Janika, Dontrell, Jasmine, Montell, Jashell, Richard, Richard, Timothy, Ameera, Kareem, Carlye and Malkahi; great-great-grandchildren, Maharia, Maliyah, Bailey, Cailey, Ricardo, Noah, Gavin, Niyau and Kyden; sisters, Anna, Verba, Ethel (Clarence), Dorothy and Evelyn; brothers, Isaac and Ozell (Polly); god-daughters, Ann, Tasha, Karen (Misty), JaPaula, Gail and Harriet; god-sons, Larry (Janice), Robert (Barbara), Michael and Harper; special nieces, Evelyn G., Antoinette C., Angela H. and Spring H.; a host of special relatives and friends including, Jessie C., Carolyn N., Maybell R., Vanessa W., Edna S., Mildred G., the Collins, Calhoun's, Brays, Hinkle, Tyler, Brown, Balknight, Pollard, Manning, Johnson, Dorsey, Williams, Chilton, Davis, Buford, Smith, Clark, Leeper, Morgan, Jackson families; a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Jones; daughter, Betty Kay Williams; son, Johnnie Jones Jr.; granddaughter, Precious Hill; grandsons, DeAundric Collins, Marquan Hinkle and Martwae Jones; mother, Francis Hollins; sister, Lois Johnson; brothers, Louis Wells and Eddie Lee Williams; god-daughter, Belinda Findley; god-sons, Fred McGee and David Robinson; and many others.
