Mrs. Velma L. Nelson-Badon

BADON-NELSON, Mrs. Velma L. - Age 91, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Memorial Healthcare Hospital, Owosso, MI. Family hour 1:30 PM Thursday, March 2, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd.., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Elder Thomas Calloway, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Thursday. Mrs. Nelson-Bado will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday. Mother Velma Nelson-Badon was born April 2, 1931 in Tyler Town Mississippi to Reid and Joanna' Roberts Lewis. Mother Velma excepted Christ at an early age. She was married to Albert James in Tyler Town, Mississippi and there they had a baby girl, Avie. After the passing of Albert James, Mother Velma and her daughter moved to Flint, Michigan where she met and married, Rev. Salvania Nelson. From this union came two sons, William and Raymond Nelson, as well as raising two of their nephews. They were married for forty-eight years before Salvania went to be with the Lord. Mother Velma was married again to Elder Henry Badon and that lasted until he went to be with the Lord. Mother Velma was a faithful servant to the Lord and her family. She was a faithful member of Nelson Chapel House of Prayer Church of the Trinity. She later became a member of New hope Church of the Trinity followed by a membership of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. Mother Velma was known for her many wonderful skills such as cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was also known for her willingness to listen and give sound advice as only she could do. Mother Velma was always ready to teach the goodness of God because she was a diligent servant. Mother Velma was always using her cooking skills to teach her grandchildren God's way to do things. Mother Velma Nelson-Badon leaves to cherish memories: daughter, Avie (Charlie) Kelly of Mt. Morris, MI; son, Raymond (Deborah) Nelson of Chesaning, MI; granddaughters, Tenita Kelly, Brawyn Kelly, both of Mt. Morris, MI; Bianca Kelly of Cypress, TX, Breqel (Tarrell) Kelly-Daniel of Flint, Tempest and Alexandrea Nelson, both of Saginaw MI, Ebonee Nelson of Southfield, MI and Victoria Johnson of Chesaning, MI; 7 great-granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; 4 sisters; and a host of other relatives and special friends. Mother Velma was preceded in death by her husbands; son, William Nelson; parents; brothers; and 2 sisters. The family would like to express special thanks to Saginaw County Commission on Aging and Memorial Healthcare Hospital of Owosso, MI.
