Mrs. Velma Jean Elridge

ELRIDGE, Mrs. Velma Jean - Age 75, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, G-5443 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Samuel Berry III Host Pastor, Bishop Neal Roberson, officiating. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church, 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Elridge will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Mrs. Velma Jean Elridge, was born on November 23, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Allie B. (Willingham) Lever. Velma was a product of the Flint Community Schools System where she attended Roosevelt Elementary, Lowell Junior High and graduated from Central High School. She was employed with A.C. Spark Plug, a division of General Motors which later was renamed Delphi Automotive Systems where she retired in 2004. Velma accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Ira Watkins and united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and served with the Young Adult Choir, the Total Praise Fellowship Choir, the Macedonia Mass Choir, and the Women’s Ministry. On October 21, 1965, Velma married the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Elridge and to this union two children were born, Mark Duane and Monique Shante’. Velma enjoyed traveling, she was a great cook (especially known for baking delicious pound cakes) doing word puzzles, sewing and crafts, shopping, attending water aerobics at the YMCA and spending time with her family. Mrs. Velma Elridge, leaves to cherish her memory: 1 son, Mark (DaShika) Elridge of Mt. Morris; 2 daughters, Monique (Tony) Cole of Grand Blanc and Santita (Charles) Drummer of Flint; 1 grandson which she raised, Marquan Elridge and 9 other grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; LeRoy (Louise) Lever and Vinson (Margaret) Lever of Grand Blanc; Maurice (Fra Thomas) Lever of Flint; 2 sisters; Lois Millander of Flushing and Linda (Earl) Welche of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law; Izora Elridge of Kalamazoo, MI and Maple Elridge of Birmingham, Alabama; Estelle Lever of Flushing, MI; 3 aunts, Esther Stingley and Dorothy Lewis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Emma Lever of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends, including special friends, Mary Simpson, Dennie Caldwell, Orris Hall, Lena Armstrong, Dorothy Moss and Deborah Stitt. Mrs. Elridge was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Elridge; parents, LeRoy and Allie B. Lever; brother, Jimmie L. Lever; mother-in-law Marguerite Elridge; father-in-law Henry Elridge; 3 brothers-in-law; Charles Millander, Cleveland and Walter Elridge; 2 sisters-in-law; Alberta Scott and Mary Bernice Roseman.
