Mrs. Vanessa Ann Fair

FAIR, Mrs. Vanessa Ann - Age 62, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center-Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Devine Revelations Church, 902 Huron Street, with funeral service commencing at 12:00 noon Elder LeQuin R. Williams, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Fair will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. to receive friends. The “Dynamic” Vanessa Ann Fair was born April 25,1954 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Curtis Alexander Gist and Sarah Albright. In 1969, she moved to Flint, Michigan. Vanessa attended Northwestern High School, but received her G.E.D from the Bryant Center in 1973. For over 20 years she was a faithful and dedicated member to Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and sang in the choir. Upon her death she was under the leadership of Pastor Le’Quin Williams, “Divine Revelations” church where she was a chartered member and served on the Usher Board. Attending church faithfully was important to her. Vanessa enjoyed her grandchildren, they were her world. Every time you saw her she either had a smile on her face or something crazy to say. But she enjoyed her family, laughing, shopping, music, close friends, cooking (when she felt it), going to the casino and helping others. Vanessa never turned down anyone who needed help; if she could help you she did just that. Vanessa wasn’t just a mother to her own children she was a mother to everyone's children and was greatly appreciated by many. She worked as a Direct Care Worker where her diligence showed. Mrs. Vanessa Ann Fair leaves to cherish her memory: devoted husband, Willie James Fair of Flint; 3 beautiful children, Marcus Hopkins of Flint, Keyonta Williams of Macon, GA, and Tequila Fair of Flint; step-daughter, Alicia (Jimmy) Washington-Johnson; 6 wonderful grandchildren, Carteas Smith Jr., Jordan Nelson-Fair, both of Flint, Keyonna Williams of Macon, GA, MarcAsia Hopkins, Marcus Hopkins, Jr. and Markeis Hopkins, all of Flint; mother, Sara Albright; 4 sisters, Jean Hopkins, both of Dallas, TX, Susan Hopkins of Flint, Stephanie Gist and Yvonne Byers, both of Gastonia, NC; 3 brothers, Loran Lamont Hopkins of York County, SC, Keith Albright of Atlanta, GA and Kevin Albright of Flint; 7 nieces; 6 nephews; 4 aunts; 3 uncles; 4 sisters-in-law; adopted brother, John Brown; 4 adopted children, Jamez Cobb, Demond Cobb, Corey Short and Henry Beard IV; a host of cousins, god-children, other relatives and friends including special friends, Sandra Terrell, Tyra Brown, Cheryl Callaway and Renae Wilson. Mrs. Fair was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Alexander Gist; sister, Leathea Elaine Noble; grandfather, Henry Hopkins; grandmother, Thelma Hopkins; niece, Joyce Gist; and a host of other relatives. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint, U of M Cardiovascular Center, Dr. Kim (U of M), Tyra Brown, Charise Chism, Keesha Milton, Pastor Le’Quin Williams and Divine Revelations Church family, and anyone else who we may have forgotten.
