WILLIAMS, Ms. Valerie Lynn - Age 63, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at Ascension of Saginaw. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Saturday. Ms. Williams will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Valerie Lynn Williams of Flint, Michigan, peacefully slipped away on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Saint Mary’s Hospital of Saginaw. Val was born November 30, 1959, to the late Alexander Williams and Mignon Obleton. She was the third child of four born to this union. After graduating from Flint Southwestern High School, Val began what turned out to be a 17-year career with Arby’s Fast Food, where hard work took her from Trainee to Store Manager. From there, she worked an additional 27 years for KFC, starting as an Assistant Manager until retiring as a Store Manager. Like her father, Val had a strong work ethic. Many family members lovingly referred to her as a workaholic. At the tender age of 20, Val met the love of her life, Michael Holmes sr. They dated for several years until she finally agreed to become Michael’s wife. They were married from 9/20/1997 until his untimely death on 5/22/2007. God blessed them with three children, Michael Holmes Jr., Cherese Holmes, and Nicole Holmes. There was something special about Val that caused people to gravitate to her. Some say it was her no-nonsense way of telling you what she thought. Others might say it was the size of her heart. No matter what, if Val loved you, she would go to the ends of the earth for you. Valerie Lynn Williams leaves to mourn: three children. Michael Holmes Jr. (Nicole), Cherese Holmes, and Nicole Holmes; 3 grandchildren, DeAndre UpChurch Jr, Marcus Holmes, and A’Liyah UpChurch; bonus mother, Margaret Williams of Grand Blanc, MI; father-in-law, Kenneth Oliver of Davison, MI; 2 brothers, Jeffrey Williams and Alan Brisco, both of Flint, Michigan; 2 sisters, Tanya Williams and Marquise Anderson, both of Irving, TX; Uncle, Tyree Williams (Betty, deceased); brothers-in-law, Darryl Holmes (Joy), and Greg Oliver (Annette); sisters-in-law, Kym Oliver, Wendy Wiggins, and Simone Polk; nephews, Dariel Anderson IV (Nakiya) and Kordell Johnson; nieces, Laterica Williams, Marcella Jones, Christol Ballard (Marlon Sr), Melissa Jones, Milan Holmes, Jade Oliver, India Oliver and Gianna Oliver; great-nephews, Gregory McGee Jr, Marlon Ballard Jr, Christopher Ballard Sr, Kaden Ballard, Uormajesty Simpson, Dariel Anderson V, De’Marion DeLoach, and Daylen Anderson; great-nieces, Jaeda Ballard, Tmya Dudley and Ma’Ryis Chisum Mi’Angel Morris; great-great-nephews, Carter McGee.
