JOHNSON, Ms. Tonya – Age 55, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Monday, November 9, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Pastor Wilbert Campbell officiating. Family and Friends will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Monday. Ms. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Ms. Tonya Jean Johnson was born August 22, 1954 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Harold and Jocille Johnson. Tonya was a lifelong resident of Flint. Ms. Johnson graduated from Northwestern High School “Class of 1972”. She worked most of her life caring for other people and expressing her true compassion for the less fortunate. Many of Tonya’s poems reflected her joy of friends, family, love and living life to the fullest. Courage, strength and love best describes Tonya. As caring as Tonya could be, she could also act as a two-edge sword and cut you to shreds. We will miss our navigator. The Johnson women have lost one of their own and will miss the finger giving directions. God has taken his angel home. She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Latacha, Latoya and Breona Johnson; 2 sons, Rondell Collins and James “Markie” Brown, all of Flint; 9 grandchildren, Kevonta, Alesha, Demario, Kyron, DeAndre, LaTonya, Deonte, Rashaleer and Jaylon; 2 great-grandchildren, DeAndre Jones, Jr. and KeAndre Jones; mother, Jocille Johnson; 5 sisters, Haroletta Marie (Don) Lilly, Jennifer Mitchell, Sheila (Rev. Kelvin) Weston, Paula (Kelvin) Pruitt and Alvatina (Derrick) Wilson; 2 brothers, Harold (Wendy) Johnson and Anthony Allen; 2 aunts, Ceoria Coates and Edie Wickware; 2 cousins, Thomas Coates and Jim Wickware; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Anita Loving, Pam Harris, Marilyn Rice, Ms. Ida, Ms. Mattie, Francie “Nay” Brown, longtime special friends, Larry Brown, Archie and Sam Collins. Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; uncles. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Universal Ambulance Service we love you all, the staff of Davita Dialysis, especially Patrick, all Hurley Medical Center nurses, doctors and therapists that cared for Tonya throughout her numerous hospital visits.
