Mr. Tommie James Johnson Sr.

JOHNSON, Mr. Tommie, Sr. - Age 70, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 e. Hamilton Ave, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Allen C, Overton Sr., Officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church, 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from Friday, March 24, 2023 from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM. Mr. Tommie James Johnson Sr. was born July 20, 1952 in Artesia, Mississippi, the son of Buss Madison and Bessie Mae Johnson. Tommie was a lifelong resident of Flint and was a member of Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed with Genesee County Animal Control retiring in 1999 with 27 years of service. Tommie then resumed working an additional 15 years and 6 months with Genesee County Animal Control as a Census Supervisor. He was a car enthusiast, he was a member of the Buicktown Chapter of the Buick Club for 30 years. Tommie owned a 1969 Buick Electra 225, which was his pride and joy. On March 1, 1979, Tommie married the love of his life, Laverne Johnson and to this union 3 sons were born. Mr. Tommie James Johnson Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife, Laverne Johnson of Flint; 3 sons, Wesley (Pamela) Gray, Andre (Megan) Johnson, all of North Carolina and Tommie Johnson Jr. (Sierra Coleman) of Flint; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces including special nieces, Tonya Hendricks and Tonya Washington; a host of nephews including special nephews, Kenneth Ferguson and Leroy Hendricks; 3 sisters, Marva Jean (Jimmy) Rouse, Barbara Ann Thomas, all of Flint and Cynthia (David) Sanders of Harvest, AL; brother, DeAndre Strozier of Spokane, WA; 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Ferguson and Rhoda Strozier; uncle, Marvin Gray of Flint; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Sherlock Holmes, Eugene Skelton, Elmo Stinson, Herman Neeley, Larry Hill, Clayton Conerly, and James “Bubby” Reynolds. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Mae Johnson; brothers, Eugene Johnson and Charlie Strozier; sister, Theresa Byers; and brother-in-law, Albert Thomas. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint nurses and staff who cared for Tommie as he fought a heroic battle during the time of his illness. The family would also like to thank Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church family, True Gospel Baptist Church family, Community Care Block Club Group, Secret Place Tabernacle Church family, Sister Paulette Clemons, special friends, Virginia Robinson, Vicki Stinson, Vicki Thompson and Sharon Rizk.
